Limited space on C: for restore points

Is there a way to store system restore points (System Volume Information) to an alternate disk? Windows is installed on C: and I have the registry set to default to D: but regardless, many programs either install directly to C: or after installing to D:, still use a good bit of space on C:. C: is around 87% filled to capacity whereas I have ample space left on D:. I don't have enough restore points and would like to have the restore info stored on D: where I have ample space.

Have you considered shrinking the size of the D partition and then expanding C into that space? Just a thought.

You could also clear any clutter from the C:\ partition by using a standard Windows Disk Cleanup, you may find some temporary files which are building up over time and taking up space on the C:\ partition.

Have you considered uninstalling any old programs which you don't use and clearing up any factory bloatware?

LittleJay, Yes, I have given that thought, but that is a "last ditch" effort. Hoping to find a way to default the SR settings.
Harry, I keep the system pretty much cleaned with "Cleanup" and run a daily defrag. I will look at the link you posted, but as stated above, would like to default the SR settings.

I have never done that myself, so hopefully someone with more knowlege than me can help you out.

Have you deleted all your update backups ? That will give you some more space. Also, why not get rid of some old restore points ?

you will need to clear some space , however you can expand the allocated space for the restore points.

type create a restore point in the start menu search and enter when the result shows.
then highlight the c: drive in the list and click configure, there is a slider to make more space allocation for your restore points.
select your size click apply then ok.
done.
