Windows 8 anyway good and can I revert back?

Would you guys who have got Windows 8 recommend it? I can upgrade for £25. I currently have Win 7 Ultimate. If I did not like Windows 8 could could I re-install Windows 7 Ultimate (I have the full retail disc)?

I usually do programming and play computer games that's it. The games are my worry especially classics.

If u read a reviews on win 8, it is not impressive. Some says that both are same. Yes it have better look but some expert says that win 7 is better. In terms of gaming u'll the same performance.
If i were u, i'll not shift to win 8 as i heard some softwares doesn't work. My bro used it and he shifted back to win 7.
For me win 7 best.

It's a touchscreen OS. If you have a touchscreen it's fine, otherwise it has an annoying button-wall instead of the Start Menu which slams down on your work just to get to your stuff.

Best way to revert to Win7 is to take an image of the OS and the system partitions before you install Windows 8.

I will not use Windows 8 because I see nothing in there that works better than in /7 - and I was testing /8 since day1.

If you want to test Windows 8 before taking the permanent plunge, you can always run it in a VM. That way you get all the benefit of testing the look and feel as well as verifying compatibility with older software without changing the existing Windows 7 installation.

Windows 8 RP was available as a free download; don't know if that's still out there.

A VM won't work for testing everything on 8. You can't install device drivers and run pc games on a VM while you may consider installing 8 on a VHD instead. Here I have a second OS drive where I can install any OS by simply unplugging the 7 host drive first to isolate that from the other.

The new version as far as booting into 7 from the 8 BCD is out! When seeing 7 added into the 8 boot options on the Release Preview the cost of booting into 7 rather then seeing an entry for the RP added into the 7 BCD was both versions soon started freezing up solid when first reaching the desktop and going to click on something showing the two are not dual boot friendly!

The Windows RT gui for the new MS Surface Tablet series is where the touchscreen part of it comes in. The gui is designed for Tablet while it still allows point and click. Most use a 3rd party app like Classic Shell to see the Start orb/menu now gone from 8 brought back!

The new version gets a great deal of mixed reviews no doubt and some are finding a lot of their desktop apps are running into problems while that is not unusual for any new version when first out. 7 was the exception for seeing things run on the 32bit that would not run on the 32bit Vista having been written for XP.

The word of advice would be going with a 90day evaluation you can install separately on a separate internal drive apart from any thought of simply tossing 7 to look at 8! You still keep 7 as the main OS while evaluating the likes and dislikes for the new version. Why worry about reverting back requiring a full restoration when you have other options available?

I'm using Windows8 on the computer I'm presently using. I don't see no problems, I have a complete backup, and I feel I can do alot more then with Windows7, although I presently use both OS regularly.

It depands on what you are running for softwares as well as what you are trying to do. Each version will have it's own set of rules to some degree. While Vista saw the removal of Fat support as well as a side bar for gadgets 7 saw gadgets on the desktop without need for a side bar. A taskbar you can pin things also now being a shared feature with 8.

Here I simply haven't found any reason other then any possible future need for Hyper-X which is something newly supported by 8. IE 10 will eventually be available for 7 only(not Vista or XP) but now only seen in platform preview form. That looked far better then IE 9!

For trying out any newer version being a totally separate OS to start with isolating it at first as a stand alone and trying to add in boot entries after creating a good system image for a start to see what problems come up is the better move then simply jumping in head first without looking!
