Is anyone using these drivers as simple sata drivers in AHCI mode?

On W7 x64 ult., I am using version 11.1.x on a P55 chipset (Series 5/3400 sata ahci controller) with an SSD and a regular "spinner" (Samsung F3).
Yesterday I, confidently, upgraded to the 11.6.x version and on reboot the system froze solid after the Win7 logo ... ???
No solution to get out of this death loop other than to restore from a system image. (I use ATIH)
Any opinions here? Release notes claim that it should be fit for the controller mentioned.
TIA.

Have you tried booting with the Windows 7 DVD and selecting repair? Then you should be able to select a restore point before the driver update.

I use them with Intel 6 series for regular SATA in AHCI. One major change is the drivers are implemented as SCSI devices. You have two other SATA controllers on your motherboard that also implement their drivers with as SCSI miniport - Jmicron and Marvell. In your BIOS, try disabing these devices. You may have to change the boot order.

As a last resort, if you need to get out of the boot loop, hook the drive up to the Marvell and boot from it, then uninstall the Intel drivers and switch it back.

Thanks for the input.
I'm not using "restore points". I don't trust that mechanism. ;) The "Win7dvd" (which is on an usb stick in my case) cannot repair the installation. Probably it is not finding the device anymore?
The marvell chips are disabled in my bios. I have the Jmicron active because of the e-sata implementation. I'm only using the native intel sata ports. (The marvell trick seems good to remember!)
I had to put back an image using ATIH to get out of the misery and even the "off line" version of ATIH had problems detecting the drives which makes no sense at all.
Anyway .. I wanted to persist in evil and installed the latest chipset drivers from "station-drivers" and the upgraded the RST drivers to 11.2.xxx. No problems at all. I think I am going to "freeze" the system to this state.
Thanks!

OK, I wasn't suggesting you go to the Marvel permanently, but just to unistall the Intel drivers that were giving you problems so you could boot back up and not have to do a restore from backup.

Anyhow, glad you got it straightened out.

Thanks, that was also the way I understood it. ;)

I'm getting a bench score of a total of about 420 with AS-SSD on an OCZ Vertex2, sata300 (a few bits & pieces running in the background anyway). So I am quite satisfied.

(Damn, good photos!! ;))
