Solved BSOD Stop 0x00000124 and freezing several times a day

Hi,

I´m having a lot of BSOD recently. I put together this computer (in my profile) in january. I´m not sure but I think I had a couple of bsod in the first months. Then I installed another SSD and some weeks later more bsod coming... not really sure If this was related or not. It used to be a Interrupt_exception_Not_Handled Stop MV91XX.sys. So, after some research I installed new Marvell Drivers. It was fine for one or two weeks, but then I got a bsod that I couldn´t read the message.

Well... last week I installed a new cooler (hyper 612).. and everything was fine for 3 or 4 days... but for the last 3 days I´m having freezing screens (no blue, simpling freezing) mixed up with a new BSOD that prints STOP 0x00000124. Today was really annoying I got it about 6 times in 4 hours!!!

So I did the diagnostic and I´m uploading it so you can help me. I ran chkdsk in all HD,s and also windows default memory test and no error found.

Besides the hardware listed in my profile, I also have a HP dvd1270 dvd drive and a Rosewill USB 3 card reader.

I tried to figure out any situation that would lead to the error, but situations didn´t match. I thought it was while playing music, in memory heavy use, while reading my memory cards, but no relation... I even got 2 bsod in a row after restarting! System temperature is also ok! Better yet with the new cooler...

So... I´m completely lost now! Hope you can help me!

Cheers

Most of the BSOD-s seem to be caused by the Marvell Drivers itself. Were they installed correctly?

Uninstall and reinstall in the following manner: Click on the Start :orb: ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to; Marvell and restart the system. Delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Fusion/Sweeper, restart again if required. Get latest drivers afresh from: Driver Reference Table

Stop overclocking if you are and uninstall this program:
Code:
Start Menu\Programs\ASUS\AI Suite II	Public:Start Menu\Programs\ASUS\AI Suite II	Public

Avast! can contribute in BSOD-s, please uninstall it and keep MSE for now:
Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

:warn: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

:info: Update the firmware of your SSD if there is one.

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

  • Click on the :orb:
  • Type CMD on Search
  • Left click and Run as Administrator
  • Type SFC /scannow

Full tutorial here:
Make sure all ram clock/speeds are the same and run memory test.

Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.
The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.
Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.
If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.
If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the RAM sticks in another computer and/or test other RAM in your computer to identify the problem.

In this way, you can identify whether it is a bad stick of RAM, a bad motherboard, or incompatibility between the sticks.

:tip: Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.
:tip: Do this test overnight, before going to bed.

In case of the 124 bugcheck, go through this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html step by step, see if it helps in any way.

Good luck.

Thanks for the fast reply... I´ll start to do the procedures.

Uninstalling the Asus AI Suite will give me no more optiosn to check system status on temperature, cpu frequency and so on... can you give me an advice in another freeware utility to substitute ?

Halfway there... but having some trouble...

- Get latest drivers afresh from: Driver Reference Table
The link is broken for the 6gb controller. Tried to find from the same domain and the only option that seems to be sata controller actually is Yukon controller. Is there any other driver website that I can trust to have the last version ?

- Update the firmware of your SSD if there is one.
Is is ok to go from control panel, find the SSDs and click in the update driver option or should I manually find the drivers to install ?

No.. I don´t use raid.

This website was the one I got the drivers in my last update try (but I was still having bsod).

What do you mean by inbox stock drivers ? The ones that come with windows ? If I just uninstall Marvell Drivers as I did in Control Panel, Uninstall, would be the same ? Otherwise, how could I do it ?

Crap! MSE just found I´m infected with Win32/Malagent trojan!!

I removed, run it again against the infected folder and nothing was found. Running MalwareBytes now.

I checked another thread on this Trojan and it seems to be trickier to remove. But the thread was 1 year old. Any advices If I should use the same approach or just trust it was removed ? Sorry for changing subjects!

It's okay, run malware bytes to be sure.

Any BSOD-s so far?

Hi Koolkat,

Gonna check firmware now.

Malware bytes found another trojan, but not the same. Good news are that these trojans were infecting files that I never opened in this computer. So... Can I consider to be safe ? Really strange that Avast and Spy Bot Search and Destroy never found anything in these files... they are really old and I always update my antivirus.

No BSOD so far... I kept the computer transfering files overnight and is still running. Hope it keep this way!!!

Still not marking as solved... let´s see what happens for the next days. Thanks again!

I see. Now you can understand the difference between MSE, MBAM compared to Avast and Spybot.

Observe a few weeks more before marking as solved. :)

Hi.. I think I can already mark it as solved. I did a lot of of stuff in the computer lately and no problems at all.

But.... my computer is much slower than it used to be. I believe that the Asus softwares were doing any kind of overclock somehow.

So... I´m inclined to do a light overclock since I the 2600k seems to make it easy to do it and I have a pretty good cooler... what´s your opinion about it ? Is there any begginers guide you recommend ?

Thanks!

Overclocking may not make you rig faster. I would start by raising you CPU multiplier by a factor of one and run it to see if it's stable, OCing is a good cause of BSOD, had several. If so, back down on what you changed.
You will have to fiddle with the CPU and chipset voltages too.

There is an overclocking here at SF you can ask question, many are better than I am at it. Overclocking and Case Mods - Windows 7 Forums
