it maybe faster on old PC's but thats because it dont have as mnay good features as windows does. The interface don't look as good and its not very popular so it does have a few compatibility issues with it. And as for the virus program. if you get something like NOD32 or bit defender, you hardly notice the program is there.

Those people in some region or countries mostly still use old pcs, know
not too much about Linux, I believe.

And we can puchase pretty good pcs with very low price nowadays.

So, why shoud I believe that kind of predition?

I always imagined that there must be 10% or much more who use the

From the Linux side of the house, this doesn't change anything for me. There are a multitude of reasons why I run Linux on some computers versus Windows. And general support for lower-end computers is only 1 of the reasons....but not really one of the terribly important ones since I get new computers fairly frequently and don't enjoy using my older slower computers.

Hmmm...I assume that you are talking about the standard interface and not one that has had some modification and eye-candy applied. Here are just a couple of example of what I mean; (many of these which can run rather nicely on really low-end hardware....of which aero and the glass effect don't work)

With regards to lacking as many good features of windows, it does have

• multiple virtual desktops
• sudo system providing far more granularity than UAC
• Extremely low risk of virus, malware, spyware exploits
• Software repositories which add convenient method of adding and installing almost everything from 1 place
• published source code, so anybody can change it to fit any need or fix any problem or add any functionality.

I'm not here to say it's the best thing since sliced bread or is going to displace any other OS. I acknowledge that it has a low installed user base and that's just fine with me. Those of us who know it and use it on a regular basis, are quite satisfied with our choices.

Vista fans -- probably. I'm replacing ALL my Vista machines with Seven. Have been really impressed by the performance and utility of Seven when compared to Vista on the same boxes.

XP fans -- maybe. My XP-era Tablet PC works much better on Seven, even using XP-based drivers, than it did on Vista. Another "+" for Seven.

Diehard Linux fans -- NO. Think of what "diehard" means. These are folks who wouldn't change to Seven if you gave it to them for free.

However, recent "Linux fans" who switched over from Vista due to their unhappiness with Vista -- quite possibly. I converted a Vista machine to Ubuntu due to that very reason, and now, have the same machine running Seven in dual boot mode -- and am going to load up Seven permanently when it comes out. As with XP (what was originally on the box), with Seven, everything "just works" -- and at much the same speed as with XP.

Just my opinions ...

I've multibooted with different distros as well as keep a few live distros onhand here for various applications including a bootable usb flash drive data recovery tool with ubuntu and Knoppix applied there along with running those along with the latest Puppy 4.2.1 along with 7 on another flash drive!

But I don't think anything in the UNIX based Linux family is going to quiite compare to how MS is starting to see maturity in their own OS with something like "Microsoft demonstrates Multi-touch". Microsoft demonstrates Multi-touch - Windows Vista Team Blog - The Windows Blog
