Intel to acquire NVIDIA in wild rumor with Jen-Hsun at helm - SlashGear

It appears that one of the crazier of rumors we’ve heard for a while has fired up in the processor business with NVIDIA being acquired by Intel with a CEO switch-up placing none other than NVIDIA’s current head in charge of it all. The folks at Bright Side of news have a bit of an unsubstantiated set of claims here that we’re going to go ahead and report on just as much for its possible validity as for the entertainment value it provides you, the reader, as the possibility of these two titans teaming up is not exactly on the top of our “yes, that will happen” lists for 2013.

That's be interesting if it's true. Integrated graphics will get a boost while Intel will get a good foothold into ARM chipsets.

Market consolidation that was bound to happen eventually, we already saw it happen with AMD/ATI and now we'll have "Intevidia".

Not sure if I'm happy about this or not.

I think it's potentially great, providing Intel continues the Tegra and discrete graphics lines, but with their superior manufacturing.

Then again, we might just end up with another Kin and a dead Sidekick.

I think the only thing we can do is propose scenarios and rate their likelihood.

Scenario A:
I believe Nvidia's experience in GPUs will become integral to the next generation of IGPs, and Nitel will be able to create powerful new "APUs" that compare well with discrete graphics solutions, but with better efficiency (due to being manufactured with 22nm [or less] trigate technology).

Discrete graphics cards will still be made, but power efficiency will improve (and performance may dramatically increase also, or at least overclockability)

Tegra will become Nitel's foothold into ARM architecture, and will increasingly include more proprietary (and superior) components, like Qualcomm's Snapdragons.

Atom processors will become more of a hybrid low voltage system, but this requires working with Microsoft.

Scenario B:
Intel scraps all Nvidia products, and shoehorns Kepler into Skylake.

I bet they would come out with APUs and put them into phones/tablets; increasing performance, and making them more like small gaming machines. this will increase in popularity with the upcoming generation and put most tower computers as we know it put not be as mass produced, in turn reducing the price parts to make a desktop, making it cheaper to make an awesome computer!!!!! For those of us who still want them that is.

If they can make money (which they will) off of the SoC industry they will. It's where computers are headed at the moment. They're small and most users don't need the power of a desktop to do daily tasks.

If Nvidia's CEO will be leading Nitel, then he most likely would try to avoid that happening.

Well if this does happen Nvidia will no longer be tied down to TSMC which would be awesome as the Intel fabs would be more cost effective.
Also the addition of tri-planar transistors would increase power efficiency of GPUS, are the die shrinks would only mean cramming more transistors in the GPU!
But if Intel comes up with the pricing...

All HD 4000 does is make low range video cards redundant. No, to make midrange and high-end cards redundant...

seriously ,I think what would happen just like AMD/ATI there just going to make them play really well together and give them a name scheme like they do with the 990fx platform Scorpius also I would add Nvidia would just help intel compete better with AMD/ATI apu's which are working over HD graphics just speculation in my point of view

I agree.

I'd personally think that such moves hurt competition.

I mean, if they stay separate there is less reward but less risk Intel goes bonkers on graphics. I prefer less risk in these situations.

I doubt that would be the case People have been pairing intel with Nvidia for years ,I am one of them P4 3.4 ghz 2GB DDR ram and a 7300GT ahh the good ole days

All intel would be doing is basicly making sure you get the best graphic compatability using that combination /but in the end as long as both brands can be choices what is all the hoopla about :sarc:
