Move Windows 7 to different Partition

Hi,



I have Windows 7 RTM installed.

I am trying to move my Win 7 partition to a different partition.
I have made an exact hard drive replica, using Acronis True Image.


The only problem I'm facing is that when I installed Windows 7, it also made a "System reserved" partition, which I think contains the boot files.

What I want to know is:
How do I restore my exact hard drive replica on my new partition, and let the computer boot up successfully to my new partition?

According to your picture, you only have one HDD = Disk 0, Basic, 931 GB.

You say you've made a backup using Acronis True Image.
The Win 7 RTM system is intact and working.

You have 2 partitions on your one HDD.
Which "new-Partition" do you intend to put the Acronis image on?
The one that its already on?

AFAIK, one does not restore a 'Disk-image' to a 'Partition':
A 'Disk-image' is usually the entire HDD, all partitions included, thus the name.

Is your computer not booting up successfully, with your current configuration?
Do you wish to 'create' a new partition?

Could you clarify your post, please?

Sorry for the misunderstanding
I only posted a screenshot of the HD with the OS at the moment.

I have another smaller hard drive which I want to Win7.


So I have 2 hard drives:

1. 1TB
2. 500GB

Win7 is on the 1TB
I want to move Win7 to the 500GB.

• Could I just do a full restore of the entire partition containing Win7 onto another partition on another physical hard drive?
• Or do I also need to somehow merge or do some extra steps, as the boot files are on the "System Reserved" partition?

See if Acronis will let you reimage to the smaller HD using their variable reimaging.

The image should only contain the actual used partition space so will be smaller.

Did you also have it image the 100mb System Reserved partition? If so, you can keep it and it should start up by changing the BIOS boot order to the other HD.

Afterward, may need to use free Partition Wizard to force delete and reformat the larger drive since it will remain an active system until it is formatted over.

If you want to get rid of the 100mb boot/repair partitiion (which also makes Repair console available tapping F8 at bootup) then after reimaging only C to smaller drive, unplug larger drive, change its cable to or set smaller HD to boot first in BIOS (after DVD) then boot into the Win7 DVD Repair console to run Startup Repair 3 separate times from the Tools list as it needs to rewrite the MBR to C:

Keep the larger drive installation as it is until these operations succeed, then reconnect to delete and reformat, possibly requiring free Partition Wizard to first Modify:Set Inactive.
