hi , i have 2 computers at my house , and sometimes i just want to block the other one for internet connection while im online , because my step dad knows nothing about internet connections , and in his opinion , opening as much bittorent apps as you can it's the best way to achieve success in life ^_^ .
so . is there anyways to teach a man a lesson by simply disconnecting him from the internet ?
my router is :
LEVEL ONE
WBR-3406

i found this options on router :
forward rules > special AP , and it has a line to insert the port , and a checkbox to "enable" connection

i'm not sure i can disable connection here , but seems close to my goal . ( i rather to disconnect the whole connection and not just some apps port)

and the other option i found is MAC control .
http://up360.siz.co.il/up3/kzzwyvwzoldn.jpg

can this help me ?

Subwoffer13, some routers allow you to turn off and on dhcp. this way you can change the ip range of the router and put a fixed IP on your machine, without dhcp giving your other machine an IP in the range of the routers's IP range, they can't get anywhere.

If it was a wireless machine, the MAC address can be entered and not allowed to access the wireless router/access point.

There should be options in the router to restrict or block certain computer from going out to the net by MAC or IP address and could be a system to block at certain times of the day.

Subwoffer13, That screen will do the job. change the ip pool starting address to 192.168.200.10 and the end to .15 or something like that.
then remember to assign yourself a static ip in the range that you set. Then you can disable dhcp.

If it all goes to hell in a hand basket. you normally can press the reset button on your router to put it back to it's original default.
I would check your present IP by using the ipconfig option on your computer and see what it presently is.

Before you do all this, I would take a look at the client list check box and also the fixed mapping box.
there could be an option that would make all the changing unecessary.

I assume you have taken a look at the doc for your router?

http://download.level1.com/level1/manual/WBR-3406TX(EN).pdf

It looks to me like a pretty configurable wireless router with 4 switch ports.

Changing the ip for the router and turning off dhcp and assigning an IP to your machine should
do the trick but I did not read the wholre router manual as you might want to do.

That is a VERY BAD IDEA. There are other methods of doing what you want to do. Turning off the DHCP server is not a good thing to do.

Show us other images of your routers setup screens.

It's in the Advanced setup section. Actually your router is a bit confusing, from what I am use to (and that is a lot of different routers of different makes and models).

You can allow and deny access at certain times of the day or all day everyday.

Turning off the DHCP server is a sure give away someone is screwing with the router as the computer won't get a IP assigned to it and neither will any printers or other devices on the LAN. Restricting access makes it look like they are connected, and they are to the LAN, but can't use the internet.

One reason that I used for turning off dhcp was that many routers won't have the ability to restrict access to an individual IP. That's another reason I recommended the user manual.
Edwar: the give away about screwing with the router should be evident if the other computer can't get on the internet so turning off dhcp would not be the only indication that someone was screwing with the router.

Sorry you misunderstood my comment. It was not a static ip from your ISP but your router not giving out IP's via dhcp would require your individual machine be setup with a static IP.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think I would use QOS for this and limit the upload speed for this connection.

This way the habitual torrent user can still download stuff but with his upload speed limited it won't bog down the rest of the network.

If you just block this guys connection then he will end up here asking why it's not working.

Of course looking at this routers settings I'm not so sure it has QOS engine.

I had a look through the user guide and didn't find anything about QOS.
I didn't understand QOS untill I got this netgear R6300 and with a bit of research figured it out and its the cats azz.
I have 3 computers, 2 PS3's(1 is for game playing and the other just used as a media server), 2 Iphones, 1 Ipod and a IPad.
The PS3 is a mighty massive resource hog and with my kids playing COD it can bog down the rest of us very quickly.
QOS solved that and they don't even know what I've done. I just occassionally hear a lag scream from their room so I know the QOS is working properly.
I assigned a IP addy to each component

IPAddyList_zps1508add4.jpg

Then assigned both through mac address and LAN Port their respective Qos Settings

QOSsetting_zps6f0bbab6.jpg

Doing this saved my sanity by prioritising the other electronics.
I would definitely do some research and purchase a router that has QOS settings within it, with
all the Iphone, Ipad and gamming consoles that are out there
nowdays using up your network bandwith, it only makes sence to corral them and keep a handle on them.
As you can see in the 2nd pic I pay the bills so I get the Highest Priority and am the happiest camper.

Lag scream, I like that!

Yes my QOS settings are much different but probably do the same thing.

I can adjust the actual kbps speed for each user on the LAN, it gives me 6 different speed settings and also has priority settings plus port range, and IP range settings which is kind of cool.

No doubt that certain programs and torrents can use up all the available bandwidth in a hurry.

Luckily I don't have any reason to use those settings on my particular network but it's nice to know it's there if a need it.

Yup...UTorrent or bitorrent can chew up lots of bandwidth if not configured right. You just right click the noticication icon and cap either or both uploading and downloading, so eases some of the pain of getting those torrents.
The PS3 is totally uncontrollable without QOS or some other way to limit it. Downloading any upgrade or even the playing COD with bluetooth caused the me and the wifes comps to burp and phart. QOS was the only way I've come up with to control the PS3 bandwidth hogging.
Also, amasing is that I've been some friends place and they have a wireless router with the wireless turned off and they are using their IPhones and IPads. Not everybody has unlimited data plans for their phones and within a few miniutes and some simple clicks, enabling wireless they now have wifi in their house and not using their data no more while inrange of the wifi.
I got praised as a computer genius and had beer on them... did pretty good for really doing nothing at all.

thanks guys for the replies .
i think im going to get one of those advanced routers .
but in a mean while , this is just not understandable . for an experiment , i tried to block every download app on the second computer in Win firewall ,( there's around 6 different downloading apps ) , blocked "IN" and "OUT"
and still , my ping is HUGE until i'm shutting down the other computer .
