Solved No VGA/DVI signal for monitor with new gpu? Confused.

I've recently had to replace my psu in my computer and figured I would upgrade my graphics card to something a little better than my integrated seeing as I was getting a psu capable of powering one.

I have never installed a gpu before and I don't really think it's that hard, but I've still ran into a problem. I removed the brackets from the back of the case, stuck the card into the slots (it's a low-profile setup) and replaced all the screws. Turned on my pc to start installing the new display driver that came with the card and my monitor fails to detect a signal at all.

Monitor cable was connected to my gpu and all, no idea what to do.


PC specs:

HP s5213w slimline
Windows 7 (64-bit) OS
4gb RAM
AMD Sempron (2.2GHz) processor
Kemtek? 300w psu
Integrated graphics installed but having issues with my new EVGA GeForce 210 1gb DDR3 gpu.
Monitor in question is the one that came with the pc, an HP w1858 23"? LCD.

I've had to use the low-profile setup with this gpu due to this crap pc's tiny case. I know that when I bought the gpu that 300w psu's were the bare minimum operating requirements for it. No idea if anything besides my psu would cause any issues at all.

I couldn't find any related articles or videos on this issue that would actually help me. I did see a few things I might need to do.

-Do I need to install the drivers before I boot the computer with the gpu in?
-Do I need a VGA-to-DVI converter cable for my monitor? (don't think so, new card has a slot for my monitor cable)
-Do I need to wait a few minutes or longer for the pc to recognize the new card?



I do plan on upgrading my RAM and processor hopefully soon, but I REALLY doubt that has anything to do with this at all.

If anyone has some troubleshooting tips or a place where I can find out more besides calling around for something that is probably simpler, PLEASE post.

Didn't want to mess up my pc but I'm installing everything from the disc that came with the gpu. Really want to get this fixed , I also plan on doing something else, but I forgot what. Anyway, hope I don't damage anything. I'll feel really stupid about this even though I already feel stupid.

EDIT: Yeah, that did nothing. Probably have to do something along the lines of disabling my onboard graphics and removing old drivers. Peered into that disc and it turns out it wasn't an autorun one like I thought. Hopefully it has some info on it that will help..

Uninstalled all display/graphics drivers under my Programs and rebooted to install the ones from the disc again and it ran an install wizard right after starting back up, reinstalling drivers that I'm pretty sure I just deleted ..

Do I need to go into safe mode to run the disc and install my new drivers after uninstalling?

I think that your issue is the weak PSU! 300 W fot that card doesn't seem enough for that card. Turn off your pc, open the case and look at the silver box at the top left corner-power supply unit. There is a table, and look for the amperage on the +12 volt rail.
If you dont understand what I am talking about, make a picture of the table and post it on the forum.

I was afraid of that Hoping that the charts stickied at the top of this forum aren't right and I can get the card to work. I've wasted a decent amount of time dealing with my psu and graphics card now already.

No picture at all. I use a VGA cable I believe for my monitor, but has capabilities for both VGA and DVI even though I'm not sure how. All it does is say there's no input signal when I turn on my pc/monitor with the graphics card in and goes into sleep mode. Which is why I have to remove the gpu before posting or anything, it disables my integrated..


REALLY going to be depressed if this new psu is not going to work with the card.

Uhh.. I'm gonna go look at new psu's I guess, I already ordered to return this like 1.5 weeks ago anyway.

Yes, tou will have to buy a new psu. Your current one has the wattage, but it doesn't have the amperrage to run the card. Stop trying to boot up like that, you can damage other components from the pc. I would suggest you a 500w to 600w (quality brand) psu with at least 25 A on the 12v rail.

Next time, before buying components, make a thread and ask it they are compatible for your system configuration.

Well I bought the psu just to make the pc function, I know it's complete junk. My current pc's caseonly fits a max of like 380w psu's so I can't upgrade to anything usable with this gpu.

I'll probably start planning on a fresh pc build, using a case and parts that don't cost 10 cents to buy..

Power consumption of the GeForce 210 is simply unreal. Under normal circumstances it never consumes more than 10W. Only in Furmark the power draw increases to 13W which is still an all-time low for any graphics card I have ever tested. The idle power consumption is an amazing 6W, which will make quite a difference in your power bill when you do desktop work all day.

It could be the power supply in that HP isn't up to it. It is also possible that you got a duff card. Not unheard of to get one that is bad from the get-go.

could b as you say, but his PSU is 300W with 9A on the 12V rail, (GeForce 210 requires minimum of 300W-that's ok, 18A on the 12V rail.)
If it was a PSU with 15-16 A on the 12V, then i would be thinking of a faulty card.

I was going to suggest you to try this card in a other, friends, computer, so that you can see if the card even works as stormy13 said. If you do so, mark up the system specs of the configuration you tested it in ad post back.
