D Drive won't recognise any discs inserted

Hi everyone / anyone,

I'm not particularly computer literate, however my desktop computer won't read discs. Whether it be a DVD, a set-up disc or even music CD's, there's a 1 in 10 chance that it will see it is there. On the odd occasion it opens, it works fine.

Currently an issue as I am trying to install wireless stick software but the disc will not load.

How long has this issue been a problem?
If you go to "My Computer" does it say that you have a disc drive?

I purchased the computer 2nd hand (reputable source though - no issues) about 2 weeks ago, have had the issue since I purchased it. They had wiped everything on it, and suggested I might need to download a program or 2 (dvx or something) however I don't know how to do this either. I don't see why I'd need another driver if the drive does work - albeit very sporadically.

Yes it says I have a disk drive, and when my computer geek mate checked the computer there didn't seem to be any issues with the drive's hardware?

Not to be a pain in the a.. but it doesn't currently have internet. I'm using a laptop currently, and won't have internet on the desktop until I can get the wireless installation disc to run.

Any other way about it?

Sorry, I had some other posts to take care of.

Does the HomeBuilt have a hardwire ethernet port ? Or is your only connection at your location wireless? Do you have any USB flash sticks that could be used to download to the laptop then transfer to the HomeBuilt ?

It is pretty hard to analzye the DVD/CD drive problem as to why it is not reading without more details or getting it connected to the internet. Maybe if you could copy the wireless stick Install Disc files to a USB Flask stick & then use it to install to the HomeBuilt.

If it is windows XP go to your start menu and then select "run" and type in "dxdiag" without the "" and then press ok.

I you have windows 7 or 8 go to your start menu and type "dxdiag" without the "" and press enter.

A new window should have opened, if you have a 32 bit system you can rely on the results, if you have a 64 bit system there
is an option that says run 64 bit dxdiag, click that option.

Let the process run through.

After this post the results from the tab "system" and the results from the tab "input".

I guess you could always take it back to the ruputable source you got it from & ask them if they can fix or install the wireless stick files. Or take it to a expensive computer repair store and see what they would charge to solve your problems. I just gave you some of my best advice for FREE

Yes, take it right back where you got it from and have them put in a new optical drive for you
