How can I fix/repair the response time for programs on new computer

Hello,

I have bought my new HP 2000-425 NR laptop 3 months ago. When I first started using it there were no issues with response times with opening or closing programs (for example: IE, Chrome, Documents, VLC player, etc). I now have recently experience some issues when opening ANY programs. The response time is way long. For example, if I am trying to open just even a music file it will take at least more than 30 seconds to open itself in Windows Media Player after clicking it.

I have run a full system scan, a critical area scan, and a vulnerabilities scan with Kaspersky Internet Suite 2013 and have found no threats. Also I ran Windows Defender full scan for 16 hours and it found nothing. I have 127 GB of free space left.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to fix this problem? Very much appreciated!!!

Have you ran Ccleaner lately? Clear out some temp files easily and fast that way. Look at your start up programs too, be surprised how many things can creep into there over time if you're not careful.

Welcome to the forums btw:D

I have not ran CCleaner before but have heard nice reviews about it. I will try the free version and post back here soon.

As for the startup i did msconfig and I only have 9 things running when the computer starts up. That does include Google Update, Kaspersk, Divx Update and essentials for the computer.

Do you have a restore point from before the problem started that you can restore?
Did this problem start after the latest MS Patch Tuesday (01/08/2013) updates?

Update for my issue: I do have Ccleaner and it does a great job but there are still some speed issues with my laptop and i have used ccleaner and i have ran my kaspersky internet suite along with windows defender and have found no issues or viruses.....so I am debating whether to just wipe the hard drive and start over again.
