Computer Slows down after a couple of hours of use: No more info

Hi,

This has been baffling me for at least a month now, my PC will randomly start to slow down after a few hours (2-4) of being used. This began to happen randomly and after no new software or updates where installed.

So far I have tried to take off all my overclocks, run a CPU test for 24hours (stable) and all the defrags and disk cleanups that I could be bothered to run. Worst thing is this started happening a day before I was going to make a restore point.

All my system info is on my profile.

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention where the slowdowns occur, they include programs taking a good 5 seconds to open and more confusingly sites take a good 30-40 seconds to load when shortly after boot it takes less than a second.

I have checked my network usage and system resource usage and both are within their normal ranges.

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 starting with the hardware tests, establish a Clean Boot, utilize the System Resources to find solutions to problems, scan the logs for errors especially at time of slowdown, Generate a System Health Report, etc.

Yep Greg that was my next step I was just checking out the simple stuff first but I have your tutorial on my list of refs to go LOL!!

When your PC starts to run slow, i'm assuming you've checked taksmgr to see what process's are eating up your CPU. I've followed some advice found here Speed up my computer and make it fast. and it helped a bit. The results found in taskmgr should point you in some direction to what process is eating up your resources. I've found that when my anti-virus decides to run a scan, my rig slows down. When you see the slow down, check the top process running in taskmgr and report back.

To access taskmgr, click start and in the text box, type taskmgr and double click the taskmgr icon under programs. Then click on the processes tab. That will give you an overview on what processes are using the most CPU and memory. Hopefully this will narrow down what is using your resources.

The problem is nothing is using my resources, programs run just as fast as they normally do but they just take ages to start, gone through eventvwr with a fine tooth comb and still nothing, windows repair won't even find my OS (bet it's SRT screwing with me)

Have you completed all of the Troubleshooting steps I gave you? If so you would have a new install without these problems.

Everything apart from the last two steps. I was trying to figure out the cause of the problem so if it every crops up again I know what to do.

It's the worst damn kind of problem, it appears for no good reason and then disapears just as randomly as it started.
