Why did you join the forums? How did you discover it?

I was looking for a forum on google to help assist with my Win 7 Desktop Technician course and gain more info, found this site, and with the help of some very informed and lovely people, have come on leaps and bounds...of course i still make lots of mistakes...too many...but there is always someone who jumps in to save my bacon and shows me the righteous path...cracking site, cracking people

I discovered this site after purchasing Windows 7 to dual boot with Vista (at the time) and not wanting to make the same idiotic mistakes I did when attempting to upgrade from XP to Vista 3 years earlier I did a google search for "dual boot Windows 7" and after checking out all the other forums this forum was by far the best one. Also the Microsoft Answers forum even had a link to Brink's tutorials which sealed the deal.

After lurking for a few months and realizing the wealth of well written and organized Tutorials plus the amount of threads solved by helpful members convinced me to join not only to help others but also to say Thank You to all those friendly members who have taught me something new each and every day.

I joined for a couple of reasons. 1.) Being one of the few "I.T. friendly" people at my job, i regularly find myself thrown into projects i have little to no experience with. 2.) I LOVE learning new tricks with windows, and the tutorials that are provided in this forum are amazing for doing just that.

but finally 3.) I love meeting new people that are just as nerdly, if not nerdlier than I. The "games" and conversations we all have are always fun to read through, it's a fun way to pass the day.

I can't remember if it was before I got my PC with Vista, but I came across Shawn in the Newsgroups and followed a link he provided there that took me to the Vista Forums. When him and John set up this one I of course joined the same when they set up the 8 forum.

I'm just an old stalker following them around.

Back when I upgraded from XP to Vista, I would be fiddling around with it learning how to do this and that. Every time I searched Google Vistax.com would popup and I eventually joined the forum to thank Shawn for his countless tutorials that had helped me, then it went from there.

I think I was looking for Yugoslavian Goat Shaving sites when I came across this in the Google search....

Honestly, I can't remember....I was having some sort of issue with 7 & saw this forum. Upon parsing the posts, I noticed there were no rude comments, flamers or other problems. It was (& still is) well organized, a good place to find answers with some very good people to help you out.

My story is pretty mundane.
I joined Vista Forums a few years ago when I was getting a laptop for the first time, and simultaneously was upgrading from XP to Vista. Although I had used a PC for many years and was very familiar with XP, I needed all the help I could get trying to decide which laptop to buy, and also to learn as much as possible about Vista. So I started with another forum that has a huge section devoted to helping members make the best decisions about which laptop to buy --- and I kept noticing references to Vista Forums. And once I joined Vista Forums, the road to Window Seven Forums was easy.

I typed " Windows Vista tips and tricks" in Google and it got me to Vista Forums
For few days, I only looked at Shawn's great tutorials and later, started helping people out there. When SF started, I didn't join for some time thinking I'd join when I'll run Windows 7. Then I downloaded a leaked Windows 7 ( yeah, in those times we were crazy looking for leaked builds) and joined SF. Today, I can proudly say that I'm one of the oldest member here ( member # 370) and it feels great to be a part of this community.
