John, my respected friend, please dont take me otherwise, but I have to say it. With the issues, our personal bias dont work. I was a great fan of TuneUp Utilities over years. Later I realized some issues are being caused by it, which are beyond repair in normal course. In my system I still have this program installed, coz I also learned how to use it safely. I also learned how to repair the damages made by a program like TuneUp; two of my earliest tutorials are based on that very experience. But when the issues come, my first suggestion goes as to uninstall TuneUp utilities.
Similarly, there are some great antivirus programs. But, all of them contribute to system crashes, now every now and then. Pick up some random threads, every third one is caused by any of those antivirus programs. Irrespective of product version and everything. Even, some of the producers confessed it in their KB articles that their program is causing BSODS, and their public relations reps talked us in the threads. I personally pointed some of their posts out to our forum administrator, too; and he supported my method to remove the problematic antivirus.
You know, people trust on internet based reports, like those published in places like CNET. Based on those they choose their programs. And they are not very ready to accept that the well rated program may cause any crash. Even when I/We are supplying evidences form their crash dumps .... the record that the machine recorded itself. In such a situation if a highly valued, honored and trusted member like yourself also contradict the dump data outcomes, the job becomes even more harder.
Our accountability is to the issue only, not to anything else. Not to any big software or hardware producer. We point out only the facts those are based on evidences, and nothing else. In troubleshooting, if fact contradicts with hypothesis, the fact will take the upper hand, not any hypothesis of faith.
Then what is the difference between those program rating publishers and us? They run on advertisement money, everywhere there are advertisements, even their downloads also sometimes come bundled with adware. Whereas in SevenForums, we the logged on people dont see any advertisement, only issues those we see. It is our administration policy, that made this site the best one in technological support world. Here we people deal with the issues, and post the solutions based on out collective knowledge and experience. As a regular poster of "more help requested" thread, you know where we chat, on what, and where we contradict on opinions. A thread is not the best place to do it.
Anyway, you are a senior person, I respect you sky high. If somehow I sound rude, please forgive me. It's not an intention, and it's a request.
