Sorry if this is a repeat post but I’ve found so much about this issue that I’m bewildered & haven’t found a Fix. I’m 65 & legally blind so searching the net isn’t as easy as it used to be.
I have one of a kind Family pics that if lost are gone forever so I back them up on 2 ext HD’s in case 1 HD goes bad.
I keep getting the error message; File Name(s) Would Be Too Long for the Destination Folder.
Does anyone have a fix for this or at this point I would be willing to buy an easy to use program.
Thanks in advance, Mike.

From what folder do you want to copy from?
to what folder do you want to copy to?

How do you read by the way if you're blind? Are text on screen (websites, error messages) be spoken? Very interesting to know. And how do you type?

I'm no doctor, but legally blind and completely blind are two different things, I believe. I was under the impression that being legally blind meant you can still see, under special circumstances with specific glasses and lenses, where as completely blind is just that...you see nothing.

I copy folders with sub folders from my c drive to my 2 ext HD's & didn't have this problem with XP & even Vista. My pic folder is 217 gb so it would take 10's of hours to do it manually.
I have a big keyboard & use the magnifier to read along with super bright lighting.

So you're copying from:
c:\users\fbdfbdfb\sadfsdfs\ all in that folder
to
d:\asdasda\rtery

??
But what is source and destination? So where are you copying from and to where?

I didn't think that mattered so much. I have 4 internal HD's & my pic folder is on my F drive & I back it up to my external K & O drive

Still don't understand....sorry.

Assume you copy from
C:\dfgfdg\aaaabbb
to
K:\fddfhbdhbdf\gggg

Be sure the last string is shorter! Full pathname (including folder) is 255 characters as far as I know

Maximum Path Length Limitation

In the Windows API (with some exceptions discussed in the following paragraphs), the maximum length for a path is MAX_PATH, which is defined as 260 characters. A local path is structured in the following order: drive letter, colon, backslash, name components separated by backslashes, and a terminating null character. For example, the maximum path on drive D is "D:\some 256-character path string<NUL>" where "<NUL>" represents the invisible terminating null character for the current system codepage. (The characters < > are used here for visual clarity and cannot be part of a valid path string.)

I counted & have 153 characters if I add all the characters in my main folder & all of my sub folders, 260 subtract 153 = 107 & none of my pics are anywhere near 107 characters.
