Inexplicably Low C: Drive Storage Space

Hello everyone, I'm obviously brand new to the forums so I hope this is the right place for this. I should start with my type of drive; I have a 120gb Cherryville SSD from Intel serving as my C: Drive. Just the other night I had approximately 43GB left in my C: Drive (note this is incredibly low as well, but I was content). Last night I checked again and saw that I was down to 25! I performed a disk defrag and that actually decreased my storage to 23! I am absolutely puzzled as to the cause of this.

The only thing I have done between the time that I had over 40 and last night was update my visual BIOS (having nothing to do with my C: Drive at all) and download a simple XML update for Microsoft Expressions (which was measured in kilobytes). Granted I have done my fair share of updating .net framework and various other updates, but all of my major programs are on my hard drive, not my SSD.

To put this into visual perspective, I'd like to share a photo showing around 25GB of space taken that is absolutely nowhere to be found, I find it hard to believe that Windows and a few programs can take up nearly 90GB of storage. Any advice/ideas?

Well I can't tell you what is filling up your SSD but what I can tell you I know of no SSD manufacture that recommends defragging a SSD.

Use this program, Tree Size Free to determine what is stored on your drive.
Run is as administrator.

You should never run a defragmenter on an SSD. Data is stored differently and it does not need defragmentation.
All it will do is lessen the life of the drive unnecessarily.

I believe if you try to run the Win 7 defrag, it just does a trim command.

I think you will find that is not true.

Try removing "Indexing" from the C: drive. Since it's a SSD it's going to be fast already and indexing the thousands of OS files isn't really necessary. You can choose to index specific folders if it makes you feel faster. The NTFS is one big index anyway. Where it helps is on doggy spinners.

Also, check Windows Temp folder. I'm guessing there's a ton of stuff in there.

Sorry, the thread I linked to was for Windows 8. I thought it was for Windows 7.

I don't have a Windows 7 system with an SSD now, moved to Windows 8.

I think that applies to Windows 8. Widows 7 turned off auto defrag for my SSD.

If you turn off indexing it takes forever to do a Windows Explorer Search. I use indexing and have no storage problems.

I turned most indexing off and have no problems with Search.

pbcopter, you may be right. The link I gave turns out to be for Windows 8, I thought it was for Windows 7. I edited the post to indicate that, thanks.
