It won't matter what you get, any PC3-12800 DDR3 (1600MHz) Will be perfectly fine and fast. But you should get a quad channel kit one that has four sticks not 2. (4x4GB = 16GB) unless you plan to go to 32GB (4x8GB)

what is quad channel ?

and also i am going to overclock my PC so i think a faster ram will help, right or not?? i am going to overclock it to nearly 4.8GHz which is possible because i have seen some videos where they overclock to 7.0GHz

The architecture can only be used when all four, or a multiple of four, memory modules are identical in capacity and speed, and are placed in quad-channel slots. When two memory modules are installed, the architecture will operate in dual-channel architecture mode. When three memory modules are installed, the architecture will operate in triple-channel architecture mode

So it means that if I get this motherboard,

You only need four DIM slots to get quad channel. If you are using/getting an i7-3930K then the motherboard will have at least four DIM slots for quad-channel memory. You can get one with 8 DIM slots if you want even more memory expansion bit it is not required.

Faster RAM will not really help all that much with overclocking the CPU. But if you have the money...buy as fast and as much RAM as you can.

One note: The i series processors require RAM that is either 1.5v or 1.65v. Running higher voltage RAM with the 3830K could damage it. I try and stick with 1.5v RAM because that is what Intel specifies.

I'm running 1.65V RAM on my Asus P9X79 Pro. The RAM is from Asus' QVL (qualified vendors list).

Maybe 1.5V would be better, but somehow I'm not worried.

When three memory modules are installed, the architecture will operate in triple-channel architecture mode

or can i use 4 for getting quad channel and where should i insert the 4 ram (like insert one leave one and inert another one) so i can get quad channel

You get 4 channel with either 4 or 8 DIMMs. All of the DIMMs in one set of 4 have to be the same size, but if you use 2 sets, the sets can be of different capacity. (Example: you could combine 4X4GB with 4X8GB, to get 48GB total.)

Asus makes their motherboard manuals available for download:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support-

I suggest that you download one or two and read the relevant parts. They aren't primers, but they will tell you Asus' requirements.

The P9X79 Pro manual includes the QVL (qualified vendors list) for RAM. There are only a couple of entries on it for DDR3 2400, and they are 2GB DIMMs.

Here's what Newegg has for 4 X 4GB DDR3-2400:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Memory, Desktop Memory, 16GB (4 x 4GB), DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200)

and 4 X 8GB:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Memory, Desktop Memory, DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200), 32GB (4 x 8GB)

Newegg only ships to the US and Canada, but even if you can't (or won't) use them, it's a useful snapshot of what is available.

All of the above DIMMs are 1.65V, and you'd have to check the individual manufacturers for compatibility with the Asus board, but I hope that the information is helpful.

Does anyone have any benchmark comparisons? I'd be very surprised if there was any kind of noticeable difference between running 2 sticks in dual channel versus 4 sticks in quad channel.

I haven't run dual channel in my X79 setup, but the memory benchmarks in SiSoft SANDRA give high numbers for quad channel. They may approach 2X dual channel.

As for benchmarks involving real applications, those are harder to come by. I can't remove RAM from my X79 system without removing the CPU heatsink/fan, so it wouldn't be a casual test.

I can....leaving extra memory slots open for future expansion.
Quad channel will always beat dual channel. Look at the Memory Assessment thread here: What's your memory assessment speed?
That's surprising, in a good way, because there hasn't really been a huge difference between single and dual channel memory.

To achieve Quad Channel the memory sticks come 4 sticks in a pack. You would want to install them either on blue or black memory slots . Read the motherboard manual on how to install the memory in Quad channel correctly .
