Solved Slow & constantly freezing after reinstalling pc AVG screwed me over

Whoa hold on there no need to panic but you have lost me somehwhat!

Are you saying Windows boots via the SSD or what? and just how many drives do you have hooked up?

Anyway start by checking in the BIOS as to the drive priority for booting. For example if you have drive #1 2 3 and the SSD is #2 set it at the top of the boot priority list and then check the first boot device list and make the SSD the first device for boot and the optical for second and USB as third etc etc .

Ssd is sata0 then i still got 3 other drives each contains backups n files

So all together i got sata0-3.. My boot priority is sata0 first.. But still boot to a black screen with blinking dash

Ok managed to boot into windows, it sems that my other hdd got my old os, n is being picked up hence the flashing

Yep that is what is happening mate just because you installed on another drive it doesn't mean the old OS will be removed in fact the new install and the old can be on the same drive in different partitions .

Thats why I asked you to set the drive priority and then the first boot device in the BIOS.

Now I am not real sure of how to deal with the Windows old install - as it should show up as and I think as long as you boot from the new drive it shouldn't cause any problems.

There is probably something in the tutorials I'll have a look see.

AVG screws every computer up.... i used it, then uninstalled it then installed avast, and my computer got SOOOOOOOO slow. it would take 5 mins to boot up, and gaming FPS dropped a lot! ive tried everything to fix it, but nothing worked, so i just did a clean re-installed windows and that worked perfectly.

ohhh BTW same thing happened to my grandmothers computer and my moms

Yep and what I think a lot of people don't know is that AVG leaves a lot of reg entries in the registry even after using the removal tool which maybe why you had the problems you had Quadrider

Me I just take them out - but this is only done if you are sure and confident of doing stuff like that in the registry.

So anyone reading this be warned!!

hey guys, i thought i was done, but kinda wrong....some of my partitions (internal seagate (disk2)) are giving me problems..
they are listed in disk management as healthy (at risk) & i have been denied all permissions even though im the admin myself... how do i fix this?

EDIT: i restarted the comp, & disk2 was read as dynamic & invalid.... shit. e & f drives missing... i worry this most because it contains all my 3dsmax files & textures...

as for fixing the comp, i followed this guide Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs

Did you remove Windows 7 from all hard drives except the SSD?
What have you done sense your post #28 when you were fixed?
Upload a picture like this. Full size so we can see everything.
Computer/right click and choose Manage/choose Disk Magement.

If it varied much I would consider doing it over if you have any ongoing performance problems.

If it varied much I would consider doing it over if you have any ongoing performance problems.

i say it's about 80-90% perfect reinstall, im almost getting back my benchmark of booting up in 18 secs for all my programs installed, currently it's clocked @ 26secs

shutting down my bench is 12secs, currently it's between 17-28secs... it varies when doing updates

but i still lost about 40% of data due to avg & the dynamic disk failure...
