Well, long story short. Can I change with out making a mess of things? It has some sort of switchable graphics set up and I don't want to go switch it just to find out it wont work on anything other than win8.

Its possible but MS doesn't make it real easy. We've seen a lot of this but its not my area of expertise. Give me a few minutes to look up other threads here to give you some pointers. I'll be editing answer so keep watching. BRB

Heres a link on how to do it. It will have a link to our windows 8 forums, click on that and see if that helps. Good Luck! http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/265767-downgrade-windows-8-a.html

Basically you'll have to get a retail copy of 7 or at least the key (we can direct you to a .iso download if needed), wipe the drive then install 7. Theres more involved though so see if that link helps you.

If you have any questions or need anymore help the installation thread here would be a much better place to post.

Welcome to the forums!

How long have you used Windows 8?

thats what i was wondering,
i got a new laptop last wednesday and after a couple of tweeks it runs great and there is little difference to 7 when using explorer ,in fact i find it better.
it is difficult when we are used to something to have to change the way we do things but im getting used to this now and i prefer it, when i use 7 on the desktop pc i find it dated looking now .

personally if i were you i would give it a few weeks then decide.

you can add a start menu using third party softwares i use start8 from stardock, i boot straight into the desktop and skip the metro start i do have a look at it occasionally but i dont have a great need for the apps.
as its a new laptop my startup speed is good but that said it opens office quickly and the shutdown speed is excellent.
im still finding new things all the time and thats fun.
the task manager is vastly improved ,copy and pasting things shows a speed graph when looking at it in more details view, i like that feature too, maybe unneeded but a nice feature.

see if it grows on you.

Not long, but I have found it to be frustrating.

Its feels like I bought an Ipad instead of a laptop. If I wanted a Ipad I would have bought one.

Edit:installed win7 ultimate

Ok, cant seem to find drivers for my WIFI and the switchable graphics seem messed up. Any idea where to find the drivers or whatever? I found one for tha graphics but that didnt work

Check out some of the tweaks for Windows 8. You can get the start button/menu back and I believe you can change some settings where you only use the "Metro" or tiled interface in certain cases. I have to say that Windows 8 has quite a few good features built into it, with the only major drawback being the initial interface. But like I said, there are ways around that.

Give it a few weeks, and check out some of the settings where you can customize it.....you might end up liking it!

I think this is what most people use to get the start button back. Start Button 8

Check here first : Model Content Page

You may have to go to the vendors site for drivers though. I remember having to do that with my Toshiba. The wifi drivers SHOULD be on Toshibas site however. If not ...... what kind is installed?

Just got the wifi working. Does anyone know about switchable graphics? The guy at the store explained that there was basically a good card and a kinds crappy card and that it would switch between the two depending on the need. That sounds like something that would need a program and I have no idea.

Just go to AMD's site and get the chipset for your machine. I don't have that feature but have read about it, its automatic for the most part though you can make it "on demand" too, at least Nvidias version can.

From what I have read you need to go to the manufacturer of the laptop for the correct switchable video drivers. The ID string of the video card is often altered so the normal drivers you would get from Intel, ATI or NVidia will not install. You need the custom modified drivers made for that exact model laptop.
