I know where they got the idea from .... I get one every year, and there's usually a chocy behind each tile, but no such luck with win8

I keep mine in the Microwave and set it to go every 15 seconds every 4 hours just to make
sure I zap all the back door intruders.:roflmaod)

Yeah, the start menu reminds me the Advent Calendars when I was a kid. Each morning you could open a tile (door). But at least there was chocolate behind the tile.

Am having a go at making batch file to make your own 7sp2 install media.

You will neeed an install dvd - and you need to d/l the updates ( I will explain where from and which ones - it is pretty easy .

Just run the batch as admin and it does the job for you. It takes a while putting the updates in - then it will make the iso. You can go away for lunch and let is do it's thing.

SP2? The latest I have been hearing is that 7 might not even see any SP2. That hasn't been officially confirmed or denied by MS however. Time will tell while 7 now is almost late except for XP seeing that version's SP2(2004) 3yrs. after the old version's launch back in 2001. 7 has already passed the 3yr. mark by 5 months. XP launched in January 2001 compared to 7's launch in October 2009.

It is quite funny over at eight forums. It is a bit like being the only sober one in the pub.

You get torn up simply posting the facts by some over there real fast. Some are relatively new to Windows apparently and looking at the new MS "eye candy" never having started off with dos, 3.1, 9x, etc. and are likely accustomed to texting their buddies on their smart phones never having spend all those years running desktop machines.

The facts that can't simply be avoided is precisely just what MS did in not working out a new look for the desktop but only slapping the Windows RT gui on an updated Windows core to make 8 look the same as the new tablet version of Windows. Someone thought it would look nice at the sacrifice of a working desktop OS. "And then the 3rd party opportunists saw their chance when the software giant stumbled once more to..."

Not only does 88 suffer from a gui mishap but is now a Windows stripped down in size with features and the extra WMP support like codecs removed. Sure it starts up faster when you get closer to the CE type of embedded Windows for smart books with less to offer for the desktop to some extent.

Now speaking about seeing some "Normalcy"? in 8 just another "blog on the rocks" as far as the new version is concerned but does point out the call for 3rd party apps. Start8 and ModernMix -- Windows 8's last, best hope for normality on the desktop

Actually I just got done slapping Classic Shell onto a rather new 8 laptop a week ago when the original owner got sick of 8 fast and sold it half price to a friend!

...Of course, the new Windows 8 is packed with a lot of new features, but other than the new looks & that touch interface there’s nothing innovative at all in it. In fact, it has only made the once easy user platform into a mess with all those live tiles system.


For instance, the “Metro design language” is suitable for the Windows Phone but Microsoft was wrong to think that it will improve the desktop experience. In fact, it has turned the PC into a big smartphone.

Yep.

Desktop users seem to be rejecting a mobile phone ui being thrust at them.

The cost of touchscreen devices puts people off.

Bottom line, there are penalties to 8. Metro annoyance and higher cost in dollars.

People won't mind the phone interface being thrown in - if there is no penalty. That means - it needs to be an option , and they don't want to pay extra dollars either.

What a friggin mistake getting 8 was, I hate it. I've installed "Classic View" but that's just a stop gap. I wonder what it would cost me to "upgrade" to Win7?

I only ever tried using windows 8 on display models in PC shops and didnt like it. Windows 7 is still my favorite.

They might - I understand they normally do within 30 days - it has been longer, but you could say you were trying to like it, so they may.

I'll definitely buy 2 of these OEM Windows 7 before they run out. One main reason I won't upgrade to 8 is due to some essential programs (chemical process simulation software for example) that are required for my classes aren't even compatible with 8, even when forced to run in compatibility mode. I also dislike the idea to install 3rd party programs just to make Windows 8 function like 7. Lastly, Windows 8 Explorer looks ugly as heck, and it feels like I'm using Windows 1.0 from 1985. Honestly, I don't even see a benefit from upgrading to 8 especially if you have a decent hardware. From what I researched, 8's improvements are only miniscule and unnoticable on any modern hardware.
