7 freezes while browsing Internet

Power manager have an item that turn off the network after some time, try disableing this.

Well I haven't had a crash since this morning, disabling the iphelper is just an addon

i read somewhere sometime in a technical discussion on malware, during the chinese olympics, that ip6 over ip4 in windows was extremely bugridden and vulnerable to attacks.

I remember posting that since china put all the Olympic stuff via ip6 the chinese hackers would have a field day.

Wouldn't know where that thread was, but it was knowledgeable people talking.

i didn't update anything and no freezes either (knocks wood). I'm not going to try and reactivate iphelper, it works now and thats good enough for me.

Clean install, no reg mods nor reg apps let loose.

But still no freezes.....

Another thought. I had similar freezing problems and disabled all the add ons that were in use with MSIE. That completely fixed the problem and I no longer experience the freeze. I did identify which add on was causing the problem by enabling them one at a time until the problem re appeared.

i don't use IE i'm afraid. So that should count as IE specific rather then OS.

I installed again windows vista 64bit and its working without problem.. with the same machine that windows 7 freezes before 5-15 mins of usage...

i tried to disable iphelper also which in some case have been helpful...

Well, good luck i've come by this thread, or I would have reverted back to Vista.

Fixes I have tried but did not seem to work:
- disabling IPHelper
- setting the EnableActiveProbing registry parameter to 0

Fix that worked:
- rolled back the video driver to 180.48

The way my 7 freezed:

- the whole system just hanged at random intervals, for up to 1 minute at a time, during which nothing responded.
- this happened whether I used a browser or not, although it seems that it hanged quicker if I had used a browser.

Was this a Vista Driver you rolled back to or was it a NVIDIA Win 7 driver?

Also are you running Win7 32bit or 64bit? I'm running 64bit.
Where can I find this driver as I have searched the net and can't find it.

Yes, it's an old vista driver. I don't think Nvidia made a win7 compatible driver as of yet, considering the problems I've encountered with my 8600GT + the latest 190.xx driver on win7.

You can find it on this page, (third one from the bottom up) in both 32 and 64 bit architectures (I'm using the 32bit one, need more ram for the other )

If you have a laptop, you'll have to download the .inf file and overwrite the one that comes with the driver. (this way you can install the nvidia driver for your laptop video card)

I have had a few instances where certain pages would hang randomly. Using the latest firefox when it happened but the problem also seemed to happen in IE8 as well.

It will hang and then recover then hang and recover again over and over until I close the browser and reopen it. But going back to the page will cause it again until I restart. After that it's fine again for a while. Seems pretty random though and it has only happened to me a couple of times so far.

=) Well, the 64bit nvidia drivers are exactly the same for both Vista and Windows 7.

Anyway, I NEVER had a freeze again. As I thought it was due to my wlan pci adapter driver which just wasn't compatible, however Windows 7 through windows updates updated the driver all by himself and since then everything is perfect. =)

Loaded the 64bit driver and problem solved. No more freezing and I can now watch all movies from beginning to end.

SOLVED !!

Hello everyone , the good news is " Problem Solved ". At first i had all the problems with you guys had. I have Win 7 7100 and the games kept freezing anytime between 3 to 15 mins. I have checked many other websites about the problem and i noticed lots of people were suffering because of this problem. However i noticed that the games freezes in ONLY Single player mode. So are we not gonna play single player games ? No , do not worry about it. yeah i will tell you the solution but i am just living the moment of victory. First i updated all the drivers , i tried to re-installed them but nothing helped , then i gave up and i wanted to play Warcraft III , when i tried to connect battle.net windows gave me the weird error and it was something like " You need to run the application as administrator".... ok ok i shut up now , just run every game AS ADMINISTRATOR and the game will not freeze again. Well at least it worked for me and my gear. Peace.

my cpu freezes when I'm browsing. It makes a repetitive whrilling noise much like that of a helicopter when it freezes. This ONLY happens when i'm surfing and not when I'm playing games, or running other programs. The freezing situation happens with IE8, then i started to use firefox, fine for a while but then, it starts happening with firefox as well.

my system specs:
acer aspire t1800 with 1g of ram. (the 1gig of ram works just fine and I don't think that that's the problem) an anthom 64bit processor, and my drivers are updated.

I suggest you to monitor your RAM usage , i think it is because of your 1gb ram OR you may try to disbale the overclocking if there is any.
