Black Screen after login in Windows 7

OK - let's have a look at the SPLDR settings....

Please run the following commands, and post the results.

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SLSVC
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SPPSVC

They may show something

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I knew I'd lost a thread somewhere! :(
Those values are all normal.
Please run SFC /SCANNOW and post the CBS.log
Please also
download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and post it

No significant errors in there at all.
Perhaps the Event Log will give us some clues.
Try copying the following files to the desktop.
C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs\Application.evtx
C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs\System.evtx

If it works - it shouldn't - then delete the originals

If it doesn't work, then run the following command in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP EVENTLOG

copy the files, and then run the following command

NET START EVENTLOG

zip the files up, and post them to your reply

I delete the files that are in the folder, right? That's what you meant by the originals? Because I was able to copy the files to the desktop.

When I was trying to delete it, it said the file was in use.

One thing that stands out in the logs is the huge number of errors related to an Office Click-to-run installation.

Are you actually using that, or is it in some sort of limbo state?

- this is a result of
ConfigFlags REG_DWORD 0x0

We need to correct this....

Open Regedit and navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR Key

Export it to a reg file for safety!
Right-click on the key name, and Select Permissions,
Click on Advanced, then the Owner tab
Make sure that Administrators is the owner, and put a tick in the 'Replace owner...' box at the bottom
Click OK once
add Administrators to the 'Groups or Usernames' list, and give them Full permissions
CLICK OK
Now move to the 0000 subkey
Double-click on the ConfigFlags entry
Change the data value to 400 (make sure that the radio-button is in 'Hexadecimal') and click OK
Exit Regedit, and reboot.
Post a new MGADiag report
