Yes, I used a few linux system they seem to be getting better, the last one I used was mint mate 13. Which wasn't bad at all for linux. I used backtrack 5 which was ok but the linux mint has a real nice feel to it.

I used it on VMwork/player, virtual box and installed on a partition. which is gone now as I have deleted it.

Also had problems which I might add for anyone who may get them. When installing linux, it happened once. For dual boot be careful the set-up doesn't always do it right, as it make's two hidden partitions and won't allow you into windows. But DON't be fooled to think you need to clean install. You just have to use a program to access you hard drive, like partition manager

It is 968MB for a 64 bit so half the time it takes to download Windows 7 64 bit.

I assume you mean the Mint Mate .iso. On my system it took about 45 minutes. Let it run in the background. Choose the server nearest to your location.

That is what I did on the VM. Now I am installed on a 125 GB partition on a hard drive. Next I'll hook the rest of the drives and tinker with EASY BCD to select it on bootup.

You tell Linux was designed for the geek niche market, with the System Information, it contains much more detailed information than the Windows System Properties.
