Other than Samsung, what other monitor brands offer software control?

Samsung has MagicTune that allows you to change monitor brightness and presets. Planning on picking up a 27" monitor which will be around 2ft away from me and I don't want to get up every single time to change the settings.

What other brands of monitors that offer software control?

I just find it funny how after all this time no one has thought of a way to control brightness with the keyboard. Laptops has had it for years why not desktops?

*edit* Dell has Dell Display Manager. Guess I'll have to go with a 27" Dell.

OpTical, you could try a third party program I have never tried it so couldn't tell you if it's good, but looks to be able to suit what you are looking for.

I got a few of these: HP Pavilion 23xi 58.4 cm (23") Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor (C3Z94AA) | HP® Africa.

The HP Pavilion xi series displays come with an app called HP My Display.



It gives you full control of display settings, taking really little resources. The best backlit displays I have had, the app makes it even better.

The monitors Kari linked to have an anti-glare coating. I know most of the Dell's have an anti-glare coating........I wonder if that would help the OP instead of constantly fiddling with the brightness levels. I honestly can't remember touching the brightness levels on either of the last two monitors I've had. I also have an annoying light that washes over my display during the day, but the matte finish and anti-glare coating take care of that.

I did, it's 2.6ft to be exact. Point is, I don't want to reach for the monitor every time I want to adjust the settings.

One brightness setting does not fit all. When I play games I want the brightness levels up, when I'm working on a document or reading a webpage I need the brightness down. Having the brightness all the way up when reading text, especially on a white background (i.e. this forum), is like trying to read text written on the sun.

That's why many monitors come with presets for different tasks.

You can change the levels in each individual game, which would be easier than adjusting the general monitor brightness and having to readjust it for other tasks. You can change the forum skin, if you find you have to adjust it while here.(Very bottom of the page, on the left, drop down menu) Maybe that would help with those particular problems.

Also, that quote was referenced for the part about either Catalyst Control Center or Nvidia Control Panel. You can use one of those(depending on what graphics solution you have) and adjust and save display profiles.......in which are brightness settings. Sorry I didn't make that clear, left that part out

Adjusting the brightness of the monitor adjusts the backlight, not the colors. There is a difference between the two, a very big difference.

I may be mistaken, only because I've never had to fiddle with the panel brightness after the initial tuning. I don't know how much control the OP needs, which is why I thought the other solutions would be enough.

My AMD Radeon HD 7950 video card's catalyst software has presets that you can make, surely it allows for brightness, have never toyed with though, but checked for the brightness setting, and it's there and you can make keyboard shortcuts for the presets... looks like what you want might be doable without additional software, I would hope Nvidia has this feature, also.

Scroll up and read logicearth's reply. Changing settings with your video card software and changing settings on the monitor are two very different things with completely different results.

If you can't use that software and get the results you want...you monitor might be going bad. I can't see needing THAT much brightness control when you are just a couple of feet away.

There's a big difference between 28 brightness (my reading brightness) and 100 brightness (my gaming brightness). If you can't tell the difference or it doesn't affect you then you probably have eyes that aren't very sensitive to light.

If you really want to go crazy this works for me.
A 40 in. DYNEX TV 10ft away with a TV remote you can change any thing your heart desires with the push of a button.
I don't know what the prices are now but when I bought it the price was $500.00. The price has probably went down in the last couple of years.
