Hi

I have the above brand new computer which I have used for a few months. After the windows icon loads there is about 5 min of inactivity, before the HDD light shows activity, from which it boots normally.

It also takes very long when coming out sleep and hibernation, and often fails to go into ones of these modes at all.

I've read that it's "hybrid SSD" drive sometimes has driver compatibility issues, or that a DRIVER POWER FAILURE STATE error is sometimes responsible, but I haven't seen such an error myself (nor a solution online). I have updated to the latest drivers on the ASUS page but the problem persists :(

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Thanks Windude. I went through each step and the problem still persists :(

Any other ideas?

I have googled the problem and found people with a similar issue (but no solutions..)

e.g. very slow boot up/start up windows 7 asus zenbook UX32VD - CNET Windows 7 Forums

Hang on Restart/Shut Down, Slow Boot Times !!
Did you do the things I suggested after the Optimize Windows 7 tutorial?

Yes, almost all of them (excluding things like install more RAM - the laptop is high spec)...

What AV are you using, since Avast can cause this.

Hi Windude

I did the sfc scan, and I got a message saying there are errors, but they could not be fixed. I have uploaded the log file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/17h6yyarkw5d3tp/CBS.log Does this perhaps help? I restarted after doing this and there are still very long delays. The Malware bytes scan was clean.

I use AVG.

Same Issue

Hi, I face exactly the same issue with my UX32VD :
- 5 minutes to boot
- Standby Errors

Is it a UEFI issue? I remember the bios did show a long UEFI boot path before.

Did someone solved the issue?

Thx!

Thanks Greg!

I made a Boot Trace (fantastic tool) and I see clearly a boot freeze after the call of:

ntoskrnl.exe
ACPI.sys
pci.sys
excsd.sys
iaStorA.sys --> the last in the list before the freeze
... after 240s, the "real start" begins with the call of the "ndis.sys" resource.

So iaStorA.sys is waiting something during 4 minutes, then quit and the boot starts.

How to deal with this kind of issue?

Thx!

Try turning off iastor.sys as shown in http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-hel...or-sys-related-error-code-d1.html#post2196268

Turn off RAID in BIOS. Get rid of intel rapid storage.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "Disc Drives" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all items under "Disc Drives"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate system driver, msahci.sys.
Let us know the results.

Ok Greg,

I made the uninstall procedure for the Disc Drive (+restart) and also for the Intel controlers (+restart).
It's still the same: long boot and no hibernate or stanby possibility.
The drivers look okay and the issue seems to be related to the bios, but where?

I also face a strange start behavior: no more Windows logo at startup (now the Asus one). If I remember well, the BIOS UEFI start was configured with a complicated path. Is it possible to re-configure this bios boot entry?

Thx

If this is the still the Asus preinstalled Win7 then that is a grossly inferior install which smothers Win7 with bloatware and poorly-written duplicate utilities that conflict with better versions in Win7.

You'll be much better off doing what all tech enthusiasts do which is to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Make your Recovery Media first so you can delete all partitions during the install.

Until then you can regain some performance and reduce these kinds of conflicts by Cleaning Up Factory Bloatware. Just turning off all the freeloaders in msconfig as shown should relieve the situation greatly, but it's still the worst possible install of Win7 one can have.
