Solved Clicking from disc drive when installing NFS Shift 2 (Limited Edition)

I have been trying to install Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed (Limited Edition) on my laptop, HP Envy 17 1050EA, but I have been having no luck at all. After starting the installation, all I get is that the installation wizard is stuck on "Copying new files", and the disc drive is clicking.
Now before you start asking, "Is the disc itself/disc drive faulty?", I'll tell you this:

• I have tried out installing GTA IV on my laptop and it has worked fine. No problems were even encountered when playing a DVD.
• I have managed to install the game, from the disc, on a different PC.

I wonder if that this kind of disc isn't recognised by my laptop, or that the disc drive is starting to be faulty with this kind. Please help.

Another possibility is the lens in the drive needs to be cleaned. To put it in perspective, a CD player's lens should be cleaned about once every 10 hours of music. However, this can be extended by always being extremely anal about the cleanliness of the discs before they are inserted. For example: I carefully examine both sides of every disc for any specks of anything at all. I look straight on it, and I also look at it from the side. I also adjust my position in order to get different angles of light just in case I missed a speck. Then, when I determine that it is 100% clean, I put it in the drive. After all, when the disc starts spinning, anything on it is thrown off and it blows around inside and can eventually land right on top of the lens. Over time, dust and debris from dirty discs can build up and cause problems like this.

Hi there When the drive activity stops turn your laptop off leaving the disc in the drive then restart

I know this might sound silly but leaving the disc in the drive has worked for me in the past

Well it's too late for those solutions, as I've managed to get it working by a disc image made from the disc. Also, if the lens does need to be cleaned, then it will be troublesome because my laptop has a drive which you insert the disc into, instead of a tray coming out.

The lens cleaners are just discs with gentle brushes attached to them.

Anyway, I'm very glad that you got it working. This was very strange.

I experienced similar issues several times when installing from my laptop's dvd drive. Each dvd drive has its own characteristic, that explains why some can read a disc and some produce errors from the same disc. Anyway, it turns out that the label on the top-side of the dvd somehow interferes my hard drive's optic ability to read the disc. After i remove the label, it can be read perfectly by the drive and everything is installed without a glitch. You can also try copying the content of the dvd to hard drive first then install from hard drive, this will reduce file transfer error as all the installation process is done by hard drive not involving dvd drive. of course this only applies when the problem is indeed dvd optic's inability to read the disc.
If you cannot copy the dvd content to laptop, try using your other PC that you've mentioned able to read the disc just fine and copy the dvd content to usb flash drive. Then, just use flash to install the game to laptop. Hope this works.
