OK I have tried to start install 3 times now, it restarts back at the same install window with language setup, etc??

My MS sticker on the Disk box shows Win 7 Pro OEM X16- 93649, I could not find this one, so I downloded ISO X17-59183 ? Could this be the issue now?

I am trying to install on Acer Aspire D 257, not this one 5738Z.
For Acer Aspire D 257 you can download drivers as well with same method

OEM version... hmm did it belong to this pc, it hasn't been installed somewhere else?
the version you did install is win7 professional 32bits english. Don't you want 64bits?

Remove the stick and boot from harddisk instead of usb after install!

No!!

But you installed 3 times. Did you delete the partition every time you tried to install? Maybe you made a mess of it. you have a folder called C:\windows.old ?

After you do a upgrade install, you will also see the option Files discarded by Windows upgrade option in Disk Cleanup. This would be for the C:\Windows.old , C:\$INPLACE.~TR , and C:\$WINDOWS.~Q files left over from the previous operating system.

Run disk cleanup anyway.

Thats fine. The Windows.old and .000 are from you booting into the USB 3x when you were installing, since you had no previous Windows installation - just delete them.

You don't need the USB any more now. Run all the updates, then install any Acer drivers you require.

I never get windows.old folders from a booted install, only one which is run from the existing OS.

The Acer one-time Boot Menu key is F12. I'd keep the HD set first to boot in BIOS.

Check in Disk mgmt to make sure you deleted all other partitions.

Be sure to stick with the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to set it up and maintain install.

Greg please correct me if I'm wrong please. He clean installed win7. Before OOBE setup step he rebooted from usb stick again and did win7 install again. Shouldn't that rename the current windows folder to windows.old?

If he'd really started the install over choosing the partition to install and clicking Next (why?) then it should reformat and start with a freshly formatted partition even if he didn't format it himself.

I just never get windows.old when doing any kind of booted install. Do you?

I always manually delete the partition before installing. So I never had windows.old of course. I didn't know installation does format the partition automatically.
