See what windows does at startup and while logging off

to see what windows is doing before logging off navigate to
'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System', in the registry, create a DWORD value called 'verbosestatus' and set it to 1
(u might want to try this if ur comp is taking too long to shutdown or start)

Mine gives me the option of creating a DWORD (32 bit) value, or a QWORD (64 bit) value.

On a x64 bit os should I create a QWORD instead?

i think you should try dword first

should work on vista. (instead of showing "Shutting Down...." it will show "Stopping services" and maybe something more)

Set it up, but seen no real difference. Not sure if it is because my OS is x64. Maybe it should be QWORD vise DWORD. Will attempt using the QWORD.

Changed the DWORD to QWORD in the 64 bit OS, and it made a difference, however, it is only about five seconds for both Start/Restart, and Shutdown. Albeit, thanks for the tip.

that's weird,I made a qword first after seeing your post but it didn't make any difference,then i changed it to a dword and now it works...

I have 64bit OS however i created the DWORD value and it worked for me. when i shut down my pc, it says things like ending programs, stopping services, etc. and while restarting it says Please Wait for User Profile Service, Preparing your Desktop, etc.

lol the reason for me is funny i tired in 32 bit only but i mis spelled

and now some thing is coming in a flash (some settings etc)!!!

Mine takes too long to Restart. It's fast at shutting down and a cold bootup.

What am I missing here? Possibly looking in all the wrong places? .... I do that very well

I only see HKEY\SOFTWARE\etc...

Hi Jacee, you are going right. Now on the right side pane, right click on an empty area and click New?DWORD Value and name it as verbosestatus
Then double click it and change its value to 1
