Wondering if this GPU can run on my MB.

Ok, I currently have this Motherboard: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 5.x)

Now it says on the site that it's got

1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16
2. 1 x PCI Express x1 slot (All PCI Express slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
3. 1 x PCI slot
   
   
   Now this is the GPU I want to get but it says it's a PCI Express 3.0: Newegg.com - EVGA 02G-P4-3658-KR GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST SuperClocked 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card
   
   Will that GPU work on my Motherboard even though it don't have PCI Express 3.0 slots?
   
   I don't want to go and get the card and no be able to use it, and haven't had any troubles from this site asking for help info. So, in advance thank you for the help.

Faladu, I like that hardware compare link. I compared my GTX 660 which is 192bit also. Where does the 256bit advantage have the most benefits? Higher resolutions?

I would give the 7850 overall edge over the 660 also, again that memory interface is why, and I preach go for more when comparing cards, if you have the PSU juice for them/budget.

The memory interface injunction with the memory bandwidth is what makes or breaks the real quality of a video card. Article quote:
A smaller interface can be compensated for by faster memory clock speeds or different types of memory.

But if it's close, the bandwidth interface (size) gives the edge to the better one, it's in use ALL the time.

My 7950 is a 384-bit card, if it was half (192) yeah it would be mediocre. I finally took the leap to top tier, first time ever, and this sucker had better last a while. muhaha

Your 660 is probably basically a crippled version of the 384-bit top tier cards.

Bring on the 32 core CPU with multi-CPU motherboards and 2048-bit bandwidth video cards, we have suffered enough!

As Dude has already mentioned, yes it will work. Just make sure you meet the power requirements for it, which should be fairly low anyways. Good luck and let us know how you like it.

Check your Power Supply's rated Watts, if you are under 500w, likely a no go on that card, but use a PSU calculator like this one to check:

Thermaltake is a good PSU brand, I recommend them, if you need an upgrade, but there are lots of good ones, 80Plus Bronze certified or higher is what I look for and read reviews...

That PSU should be fine for 1 card, SLI on 2, check the calculator and your motherboard specs, SLI might not be the way to go.

It's a Seasonic, so it's most likely a 750W in reality.

Two 650's/660's would be fine.

However your board is not. It's x16 and x1 No Sli, no crossfire. Single card only.

Instead of Sli, a single 670 self overclocked is a good sweet spot.

Honestly with a new motherboard and the 650W SeaSonic you should be fine for two GTX 650s. Also AddRAM makes a good point about saving some money and overclocking the card(s) yourself. If you don't know how or are not comfortable with doing it yourself, then I am sure you can find plenty of members here on the forums that would love to help you out. I don't overclock, never needed it, but if you are going to, once card arrives I would take off the heatsink and fan and use superior thermal paste AND if that card happens to not have heat sinks on the VRAM itself, get some sold for that purpose but DO not use paste on those, only on the GPU. Advise to get the cleaning kit for removal of the previous paste, not just slap new on it and go. Paste + cleaning kit cost is under $20.

Make sure that case has great cooling in general and the video card fans themselves are not blocked at all.

Remember I didn't suggest overclocking, no finger pointing at me, please.

Read way more than you usually would about video cards to decide which one to go for, probably be satisfied with anything 670+ performance wise from either side, anyway, video cards have come a long way!

It's not really a 750w, it means that it can withstand -up to- 750W without failing, hence the whole 80+ certification thing.

Yeah, that's because an 80+ PSU not only has efficiency, it can deliver more than what it's rated at.

Honestly with a new motherboard and the 650W SeaSonic you should be fine for two GTX 650s.

With a new mobo, then 650 SLI is back on the cards alright.

It's very easy OP. Seriously. And it is worth the effort.

The only reason to buy a factory overclocked card is if it has superior aftermarket cooling. (Also the BIOS on the card usually has a higher voltage. It differs between models. My cards came with the voltage already maxed. Others do not.)

Personally I like bells and whistles and solid frames. Ocing can sometimes be the difference between a stutter dip and no dip at all. Depends on the game.

That's good advice if you're planning a serious OC, or if the card has awful paste spread from the factory. However it's not imperative to do all that in order just to overclock. Cards these days can handle temps better are by and large designed better. OCing stock cards you simply hit the temp wall and even the volt wall quicker.

Personally I can live with those walls. Down the track replacing paste and adding sinks to the vram can be done, but it's not needed really.

OP, what case are the card/s going in? SLI creates heat and having a case with good airflow is important.
