what do you guys think? should i get a cheap @$$ PC and put my GTX 560Ti OC edition GPU in it and upgrade the ram to 4gb for a decent gaming ring? it has a Pentium 4 @3ghz and if i get it, it, i will put my gtx 560Ti OC in and upgrade the RAM to 4GB (max supported) also im would swap out my SSD in my laptop with the HDD in that so it will be running windows 7. i ask because ive found one ready to run for $80 on craigslist.

would i be able to play BF3, Farcry 3, Dirt 3 on max/high settings with 1600x900 resolution?

obvisiously this is the only thing that this computer will do. just gaming. nothing else. not even internet browsing.

You can`t swap a laptop hard drive for a desk top hard drive, you silly ;) And it wouldn`t boot anyway

Well ya you could use a laptop hdrive in a desktop, but not the opposite, ya know :o

If we could run those games on high settings, on that hardware, then we wouldn`t have to be spending the money we do.

Whatever you do to the Dimension 4700, you still have an old technology Dimension 4700 that is only supported for XP by Dell (and it has proprietary hardware and the proprietary and undocumented Dell front panel connections). It was never a "gaming" system (the Dell XPS systems were Dell's gaming system back when the legacy Dimension line was sold) and to be blunt, by today's standards totally obsolete for current games.

I had a Dimension E510, which is a later model than the 4700, that I dumped when I wanted Windows 7.

I used to do a lot of user support on the Dell forums (for 10 years) and we had reports of users installing Vista 32 bit and Windows 7 32 bit on the 4700. It worked, but how well it worked was up for interpretation.

I had the very same Dell dimensions 4700 and I was able to run Windows 7 on it and it wasn't too bad but for gaming I think it would be a waste of your money, I'm not sure the power supply would even handles that video card.
