Windows 7 - Best/easiest way to disable auto arrange in Win Explorer

So I've just gone from Vista to Windows 7 and was wondering a few things:

- In Vista's Windows Explorer you could change the order of files and then click Name or Date modified, etc at the top and it would arrange them in order again. I really loved this feature and find the Windows 7 instant auto arranging. What's the best way to get these features in Win 7?

- I liked some of the folder icons in Vista and really want the one below in Windows 7, what's the best way to get it:

Thank you, very helpful. Is there anyway to get the sort by name, size, type, etc buttons at the top too (when in tile view, icon view, etc)? I know you can right click, but to me the buttons are much, much better, Like in vista:

Sorry, but no. Those are only available when in "Details" view.

However, you could turn on the details pane to have that info display in it instead and still use an icons view.

Ok thanks for the info, seems like a step back really. One other small thing, in the windows explorer file tree navigation on the left, it seems to keep all folders open until I close them, but I would prefer that when I close windows explorer it automatically closes all folders, is there an easy way to do this?

Ah ok thanks, any idea where I can find the default vista folder icons to download (especially the one I posted), tried google searching but no luck

Actually ...

Actually you can sort by any column you have selected in "Details" view, when you are in "Icon" view.
If you want to change your sort, you will still have to do it manually.

What I do is:

• Select "Details" view
• Choose the columns that I want (and their widths)
• Choose my "default" sort option (e.g. Name, Size, etc.)
• Choose the view that I want (e.g. Icons, Details, etc.)
• Set my Folder Template

I can use the context menu to Sort or Group by the columns I selected in "Details" view.

Perhaps I have misinterpreted what you want to achieve.

You can also use the "Alt" key to reveal the Menu bar and then you can access the options from the "View" menu.
You can permanently show the Menu bar by setting the option in the Folder Options window.
