Anyone know of an app that works the same as KR? If u aren't familiar with it, you choose 2 drives and you designate one as the source and it copies all files from that aren't already on the destination drive. So for example if i put several files on the destination drive over the course of last week, i can open the app and with a click it will look to see if there are any files on the source drive that are NOT on the destination drive and copy them to it. I think this is called synchronizing them?

But in any case, i liked Karen's replicator a lot when it worked, but it rarely worked right. I think it's an older app and doesn't work on W7/64 because of that.

Theres heaps of free sync software, even a lot of portable ones if you dont want to install.

Some examples of freeware
Vice Versa free
Synchredible
Syncronicity
Folder sync
Dir sync
Free file Sync, nice but has numerous reported network issues
Syncback
syncexp
DirSync pro, new version has realtime sync. http://www.dirsyncpro.org/news.html
And probably heaps more, have a look at portable apps, and portable freeware

Some of those sound good, especially the "no install" one(s) ! But alas, It hit me yesterday after i posted this that i recently replaced one of the 2 drive i wanted to snyc because it died, and it hit me that maybe thats why replicator stopped working. So i installed it again and it worked fine. But i will possibly look at those. If anyone has a good reason why one of those listed would be much better than using Karen's replicator I'd give it a shot. But you know the old saying, if it's broke....

Hmm....free file sync looks really good. I tried it on my PC here at work and i like how intuitive it is, plus i could test Krens rep to see, but i don't know if it propagates deletions as this and most of these do. I think i may have to try it. I know you (ripperrita) said it has network issues, but i'm not syncing drive on different areas of a network and my PC at home isn't even on a network. I'll try it, tho it's gotta be fast which is one thing about KR that i really like.

EDIT: KR DOES enact deletions on the destination drive that have happened on the source. So i guess i will leave it for now and save free file sync for when KR stops working again if it happens that it WASN'T the dying drive that caused it before.

I've been using FreeFileSync for some time now. It works well. You can chose the delete action.

Or you can chose the Update action which doesn't delete.

Any sync software worth its salt will at least offer an option to delete folders/files in the destination that dont exist on the source, and indeed if they dont then dont consider it. Theres heaps of portable ones, so why not have a look at em, if you dont like it then delete its folder and its gone.

Why not make a folder, and the put your new portable apps in there, and if you like any just make a shortcut to it on the desktop? There are some great portable apps out there, and my folder has over 150 of them that dont make a mess all over my pc.

Well, Karens replicator DOES have the delete option. I never thought of that till i started looking at these other apps and when i looked tonite sure enough i just have to set it to do that in options. I tested it and it works fine. It's been working perfect, so it appears it was indeed the fact my old drive was on it's way out that KR wasn't working a lot of the time. I see no reason to remove it for something else when it works fine and i think it's fast even tho i never used another app like this. It runs the job with a source thats got almost 300 GB on it in about 20 seconds.

How about a free directory sync tool? I tried Free File Sync and adding folders one by one is a real pain in the a$$, I have some directories with well over 100 folders in them and would like to add the whole directory at one shot instead of adding folders one by one which is very time consuming, I'd like to be able to drop the directory in and sync it with another directory and be done with it.

If you sync a directory in FFS it syncs all the subfolders.
