Solved Need info on a program to fix Partition records

Hello People:

I remember a while back (9 months to 1+years) I ran across a program that would scan a hard drive that showed in disk management as an unallocated drive, and at least attempt to repair partition records. I have such a drive from a laptop. I have used easus to recover most of the data but would like to see if I can fix the partition records before I format it. I will most likely boot nuke it but I was curious if it could be saved to make backup of data and setting easier.

I'm lost but that is easy to do to me.
What is/are a ( partition records)?
Are you trying to remove all partitions and remove all information on the hard drive?
I'm not sure what you are trying to do.
Did you replace the hard drive because it was giving you problems?

I got a laptop in that says "no operating system" on a black screen. I would like to back up the high amount of photos and music on the drive. When slaved to another win 7 machine it shows unallocated for the drive status. I used easus recovery to "find" the data on the drive and make a copy but it is incomplete at best because I cannot duplicate the user settings, email and favorites. the data is there but easus does not see it correctly. *whew* What I would like to do is this. I would like to repair the partition records on the drive because it passes S.m.a.r.t and extended tests. if I can do that I can make a proper backup of his data and the wipe the drive with boot nuke to do a "clean install" the put his data back on.

I believe this is the one I used before VistaKing. I for the life of me could not get a clue on google or bong oops I mean bing.
I will try both and see what happens. I have a couple of older drives that I haven't formated yet and show as unallocated. if one works best I'll use that one on customers drive. I'll let you know which I feel does a better job.

Here is a quick synapsis on the two partition recovery software links provided by VistaKing. (Thank you Sir.)

says it is free but the free version is a trial. I don't mind paying for good software however I take offence at trickery being used to drive sales. *Uninstalled after first use*

The second is the one I used before and is definitely free for home use, however should be used with CAUTION. :ar: Free Partition Recovery Software, Deleted Partition Recovery, Hard Disk Recovery, Free Disk Partition Recovery, Active Partition Recovery Software, NTFS Partition Recovery, Recovery Partition, Drive Partition Recovery, Hard Drive Partition Recovery T **USE WITH CAUTION**

I would recommend this one to anyone trying to recover a lost and or deleted partition. It does a good job of finding the lost/deleted partition tables. It does however require a little knowledge of hard drives and hard drive sectors in order to recover the partition tables correctly.

If the hard drive was formatted even once after initialization this program will indeed find it. Therefore knowledge of what Starting LBA and Ending LBA are is crucial to recovering deleted Boot partitions. In my case for example I found 5 boot partitions. I know that this drive had a recovery partition so there should be two. One requires an f11 key to be activated and to boot into the recovery partition. the other is a normal boot partition for windows 7 / vista.

In all I would say the Minitool Recovery is the better but should be used with caution and guidance. Most tools of this caliber are best used with guidance and a healthy dose of butt pucker (no offence intended) but work well to do exactly as they promise.

I wanted to show what I was talking about as far as the thoroughness of this program and why caution is needed. in the screenshot you can clearly see quite a few partitions. This drive has been reset to factory a number of times.
This drive passes the s.m.a.r.t. and extended tests so I believe either malware, virus or user error caused the loss.
Now I just need to figure out which. Time for some deep scans once the partitions are recovered.
