Does running Verifier put any kind of load on the system?

Hi all,

I configured Verifier.exe to run to see if it might shed some light on freezes and bsods. Anyway, I'm notice my audio playback is now choking every few seconds. I notice a little bump in the cpu load but nothing major.

Well wanted to ask since I made that configuration change and all of sudden the audio issue. I read somewhere that it's good to let it run at least 24 hours. So trying to avoid stopping and starting before that time is up.

I believe it does cause a lag on the PC . It is stressing the drivers to see which driver causes the BSOD . So what you're experiencing is normal when you have DV enabled .

If you have a look into Resource Monitor > CPU tab, you should be able to tell.

If you had a few BSODs then I would recommend taking a look at the link below

Click on the GRAB ALL button and wait until every file is generated to a folder . It will take a while to complete .

If you have been running DV for 24 hrs and didnt get any BSODs I think its safe to disable the DV .

Right, I was looking at a cpu gadget on my screen. Same reading in both though, 25%, which is probably a bit much for idling but doesn't seem like much to cause lagging.

Thanks VK. I did that last year, before the neat(er) interface. But the system has been problematic on and off for some time. One of the recommendation last time was to remove Comodo. I went back and forth on whether to uninstall it. Thing is whenever I'd look at dumps through windbg there were never any cmdagent or other comodo related files. Anyway, apologies for the tangent. It's possible that if DV doesn't help I may utilize the new diagnostic and post again.

Reporting back

Verifier has run for 24 hours, of course no crashes or freezes. I do have two questions though -

1-Does Verifier in anyway, guard against a driver crash? In other words aside from capturing the name of the offending driver, does it add a layer of stability?

2-Now that it hasn't crashed within a 24hour period with Verifier running, does that mean I can rule out a driver issue?

Second question answer. If you didn't get any BSODs while performing regular PC usage Id aim at the hardware . Run a hard drive fitness test and a memory test.

If you have any dmp files please upload them. Use the Tool to grab everything needed. Use the GRAB ALL button.

When the system freezes it seems odd because it appears the usb is resetting. Description - the screen is locked, mouse / kbd won't do anything, but I see my printer display lights up like when the system first boots. So now I changed the usb to not allow windows to put them to sleep. I have a good psu, and the voltages on the usb's look fine. I do have a number devices though, including 2 drives, a midi controller, printer, media player charger, and a usb audio interface. The audio interface is powered via a wall wart but the interface is usb.

If it crashes I will post all the files. The weird thing is I had/have all the correct boxes checked in the event of a crash / bsod but the last few times neither a full dmp or mini was produced. I went in the other day and just made sure all my ticks were correct and now waiting for the next time to see what happens.

I did disable DV after 24 hours. So far system is running fine. If it does start in again I will enable DV again in since my crashes when they do happen come in a series.

I won't be able to run memtest for a few more days. I have a big assignment due in 48 hours so holding out till completion. Once done I'll post the results in this thread.
