Mozilla asks EU to reject Microsoft's Windows 7 browser

I will continue using Firefox and encouraging others to use it; I don't care who makes a product as long as it's good. This was undoubtedly a bad move though. Mozilla has now joined the long list of companies (and people groups) that are no longer satisfied with "mere" equality.

Pretty accurate description of how I look at it, too. Except I'd add that Mozilla's general philosophy has changed considerably in the past 10 years. There's a reason they took this step, because the EU is sympathetic to whiny coddlers who want to @#$^% with the free market. Mozilla used to be lean, mean and inventive. They had clear goals, which, just as importantly, they expressed clearly. That clarity has been thrown out the window. Ever read the current Mozilla Manifesto? I especially like the part about how to advance its principles:

We welcome a broad range of activities, and anticipate the same creativity that Mozilla participants have shown in other areas of the project. For individuals not deeply involved in the Mozilla project, one basic and very effective way to support the Manifesto is to use Mozilla Firefox and other products that embody the principles of the Manifesto.
Ah, yes. You advance it by advancing it.

I'm not a big fan of manifestos, but in Mozilla's case it allows you to see how they view themselves in the cyber world, which right now is a glorified, illogical mess.

You know what the irony of this stupid EU pestering is?

In Europe Firefox actually has a bigger market share than Internet Explorer.
FF 35% vs IE 34%

So the whole argument of MS being too big a company and misusing their position to eliminate the poor smaller, weaker competition is as big a lie as "weapons of mass destruction in Irak" was.

Miss Nellie Smit Kroes is on a personal crusade to become the most famous woman in European political history, and taking on the biggest company in the world is how she thinks she can pull it off.

She was already making name and fame for her self when she was minister of traffic in my country, about ten years ago.
Her personal prestige projects back then were two, multi billion euro costing railway tracks that yet have to see the first train running over it.

It's been estimated that we would have to run half a mile long freight trains over it every two minutes to be able to pay back the costs by the year 2030
(now we have to find a way to load the half mile long trains in two minutes.)

Talking about misuse of position. :sarc: Pathetic really.

I will be buying US versions of Win7 Ultimate, and install the Dutch language pack, just out of protest against EU policy.

I'm getting a bit jaded with all this free market nonsense.
Surely it's the free market and the failure of Chicago School classical economics that has got the whole world in the deep s**t it is currently in.
Also getting into an emotional frenzy over Mozillas hippocracy and the quasi nationalistic boosting of MS surely mean some people really should get out more.
Both are ruthless corporations so what did you expect?

Sorry. Bit grumpy tonight.
I must say I'm trying Maxthon at the moment and am most impressed so far so thanks for that tip.

Hi John,

Personally I agree with you.

I don't like this free market system either, or at least the way it's working in our time.
It corrupts our values, and widens the gap between rich and poor.
And it got us in this mess, but it's always the weakest that will pay the price.

But what I dislike even more is hypocrisy.
The market is either free, or it's not, no exceptions, no discrimination.

Greetz

Thanks for the reply squonksc. Sounds like we fundamentally agree.
I do tend to think though that, despite it's "open source" cred, Mozilla's ethos is free market but with a different business model.
On the other hand I can't recall it ever mercilessly crushing it's rivals by using anti-competitive practices like MS and(especially) Apple.
Also I can't believe I spelled hypocrisy so badly:D

What an absolute load of cr*p!!

Let's see.....what's next on the agenda?

We are already heading towards 'No IE' & 'No WMP'
  1. No 'Windows Easy Transfer' as it's an MS product
  2. No 'MS Paint'
  3. No 'Windows Media Center'
  4. No 'Windows Update' as it would be silly to have Windows recieve updates for software that we're not allowed to use ;)
  5. No more 'Windows Live' as that involves using the word 'WINDOWS'
Breaking News....
silly things said:
Windows 8 to be produced by some other company so that Microsoft don't get hate mail anymore.
It has been decided that Windows 8 will be released in the EU under a different producer name. Apple rejoice as they can STILL include their Quicktime sh*t with whatever they want (hmmmm no choices lol).

What's next i hear you all ask......Well......Microsoft Doors!!!

It's a command prompt only OS that has no apps, no GUI and no use to even a 12 day old child LOL

Well its has gone from a quasi-legitimate beef to whining and moaning.

For me FF has now become FFF.

I literally just uninstalled FFF about 30 minutes ago. I'm reinstalling Win MCE on a system using a customized XP MCE install ISO which imitates the Win7 desktop to some extent. Really quite nice. :)

But the ISO included FFF by default so I removed it. :p

FFF, that is all....;)

They really are pushing to much BS.

About Apple tho. They like already said you download Itunes and you auto get Quick Time. That is total crap.

But what about if you buy a Apple computer? It comes with Safari, Itunes, Quick Time all installed and ready to use. Well to be honest I say that's total BS. If Microsoft can't do it why can Apple? They are competing at the same level just about.

Funny, I wrote an article on a news site. This is a piece of it.
We think alike. :D

What’s next on the list? MS paint? Explorer? Notepad? The Windows Shell? Because there are other companies like Stardock that make alternative Shells for Windows.
Why not make MS sell their OS like a modern version of DOS, without any graphical shell, just to make sure other companies get an even break.
Yeah, that makes sence.
