Validation for Windows 7 is coming soon!
Microsoft constantly strives to update our technologies to help protect our customers from the risks of counterfeit software. Right now, we are working hard to improve the way that validation checks to see whether Windows 7 running on your PC is genuine.

Shortly after Windows 7 is available for purchase beginning October 22, you will be able to validate Windows 7 running on your PC to help you determine that it’s genuine.

Helpful resources
If you’ve already installed Windows 7, here are some links that may help:

* Looking for general information about Windows 7? Visit the Windows 7 home page.
* Have you already activated Windows 7 with a valid product key? Read the Genuine Windows blog post on how to activate Windows 7 running on your PC (English only).
* Are you an IT professional? Visit the Windows Volume Activation site on Microsoft TechNet.

Currently supported operating systems
Only the following operating systems are currently supported by the validation process:

* Windows XP Home Edition
* Windows XP Professional
* Windows XP Starter Edition
* Windows XP Media Center Edition
* Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
* Windows Vista

Hmmmm, yea
I think its like the Online Validation Checking that is for Vista and XP. So as this is not up yet, How predictable is the Validationing of the Current Activations. I mean We already Activated this and What can we do with this ?
Or may be they are working towards a new way of Checking for Real Coppies like looking for OEM Cracked and illegal VLK activations etc.

Yeah, but these measures are no doubt making things more complicated for the end-user. In fact, it's making things more difficult for those of us who are using legal copies of the OS as well.

I honestly think that 1 reason so many people poo-poo'd Vista at release was because it didn't use the same volume licensing approach that so many people used with Windows XP and when they couldn't pirate Vista as easily..they just sat back and continued to use Win XP instead and badmouthed what they couldn't easily steal.

Something great was based on something not that great.

So if we already have an activated copy, are we required to do that? Or does it not require it? :S Not that it matters to me just curious.

I think the positive press and general feedback of users of the betas and RC's will drive interest towards the product. However, i think when it comes down to pulling out their wallets if they cannot pirate it, they will just stick with XP. At least until they get a new computer which comes with Windows 7 and start singing it's praises.

And I find it funny that they simply won't spend the $100 it would cost to get an OEM upgrade license seeing as they use their OS each and every time they use their computer.

its a update going to be released in WU, but you dont have to download it, it will probably be required in sp1 though.

Eh, Operating System Upgrades are not everyones priority, especially with the way things are currently.

This leads people to pirate more to save some money, in turn if they are caught then you know what happens. :| MS could have easily lowered the prices on all the versions, and not only that, but just made two versions instead of what.. 5? (including starter)

Granted, there are too many versions of Windows period. There really should just be 1 version IMO.

And regardless of price, people will still pirate if they can. I mean come on, the person who won't pony up $200 isn't likely going to pony up $150, or $125 either. And look at the amount of money some of these people invest in their rigs to eek out performance....RAID arrays with SSD drives, multiple video cards, etc. I don't buy the argument of, "people are saving money, or are too poor to buy the OS". People steal/pirate it because they can. And when they can't....they scour the web endlessly wasting tons of time trying to figure out a way they can.

To me, this is a matter or principal. If you love/cherish/endorse/support or feel that you absolutely "need" to run Windows...then you should have to accept the costs and the restrictions which go along with it. If you are not willing to accept those costs and restrictions...then maybe you should find or work on free alternatives. I find it funny when people say that Linux is crap, and Windows is awesome...but yet they are not willing to pay 1 red cent for it. Very interesting.

Which would you put on priority?
