If for whatever reason you were to expire tomorrow (cessation of life) - do you think, suspect or believe you'd be missed?


If so, by who - and why?

My thread and it's only apt I answer truthfully.

Personally I believe apart from my immediate adult family (all 2 of them - Father and sister), I'd be a meh in the vast land of the lost.

Secondary would be my infant nephew and niece who would easily forget my existence in due course.

Apart from that, My passing if known 'how about that' at best I'd get a couple of heart felts.

It's a sobering thought.

I would definitely be missed by my immediate family - wife, 4 adult children and my sister. I have a few close friends that would miss me as well. I have 6 grown nieces and nephews that would remember me but not sure they'd actually miss me. I also have 7 great nieces and nephews that I would just be a name (if anything) to. Beyond that, no great loss to the rest of the world.

Yes, I would be missed. I know for sure I am important to a few people, loved and respected by them. Angie and her mother, my sons, my sister and brother and nieces and nephews, a few really close friends and colleagues.

I also would like to think a few of my virtual friends here consider me as a close enough friend to be be missed.

Personally, I think our demise impacts far more people than we imagine....people don't know what they will miss until its gone. I think my immediate family, wife & kids would miss me the most, for obvious reasons.

Joan, please let me tell you I would truly miss you. I visit your cross-stitch site quite often, showing it to my real life friends telling you are a good example of how IT and Windows is not a hobby just for nerds but for everyone, like for instance my cross-stitching Welsh friend.

Angie promised I can have an affair with you. Please let me know when the hubby is out of town .

I often wonder about this a lot. When my cousin passed away a few years back and we had the funeral I was amazed at how many people were there. Many people, not just family, but friends and co-workers spoke of how she touched their lives and would be. I know I miss her as she was my best friend.

Anyway it got me thinking about the very same question you pose. For me, I can only say that I hope that I've made the type of positive impact she made on those she met, and that they'll at least remember me. I don't think anyone wants to leave the world alone.

In the end it comes down to how we treat people and whether we care about those around us. I remember the pastor at my cousin's funeral saying you can measure the quality of a person's life by the people attending the passing.

I hope I'm not alone when I go. I hope I've lead a quality life.

I have let everyone in my family know that I do not want them to have a funeral and not waste money burying me but instead get rid of my dead body as cheaply as possible. If they can get away with it, just put my remains out on the curb and let the trash man take me away.

First I thought I wont post in this thread as I am too young to die. Then I realized that my thought was a very stupid one as life has its own way of surprising us.

To answer the questions, yes my family, a few friends at work and at home and few SF members who are very close to me would miss me.

The only people that would miss me is my neighbors when my lawn didn't get cut and became unsightly.
My cat would miss me when she had to crew on my body for nutrition. She hasn't learned how to open cans of cat food.

Thank you for your honest replies in a sobering thread.

If there is one thing I've taken from this thread, it's that we probably do under estimate the impact we have on others.

Virtual friends especially. There are many on this site who I consider good friends and I know for sure that I'd miss them to which the same could be said for me if the situation was reversed.

I would be content knowing that while my personal impact may be small, those who would rejoice at my demise is far smaller, perhaps non-existent.
