There are a few things I kept. But most times I got rid of my whole furniture and started anew in the next place. Shipping was either too expensive or the items were too fragile to ship.

I once moved a touchy piece of furniture that I had custom made in Paris from Europe to the US. Going to the US was good but the return trip made a mess out of it. The US movers had not packaged it correctly - but what can you expect from those hicks. They did not know what they were dealing with - although I had instructed them correctly. It cost me appr. $4000 to get it repaired and the insurance paid only part of it. Their argument was that this should never have been shipped.

The Alexandria library would have been a superb source of knowledge. It was those Romans that burnt it - supposedly by accident. But I guess ignorance survived all times - just think what happened recently to the historic museum in Bagdad.

The Genghis Khan burial site was camouflaged by a thousand riders that ran over the area all day long to make it impossible to ever find it.

I do know that the burial site was camouflaged That is why I want to go back in time and see the burial of one of the worlds greatest rulers.

I can see you are a history lover also.
I do wonder how you go about accidentally destroying a huge complex made out of stone.
The Library of Alexandria could of been the door between yesterdays knowledge and today knowledge.

The library was close to the harbor where some ships burnt. Then the fire spread to the library. I do not remember under which conditions those ships took fire in the first place.

I found Malta nice. It was so strategically located in the Mediterranean that it has been conquered by just about everyone since the year dot. The history on that small island is incredible. I might dig up an old picture or two.

Speaking of pictures - here are a couple I took in 1968 in Prague during the Russian invasion. The students had tried to block the streets with busses to stop the tanks. Prague is another beautiful city.
