Does setting the "subwoofer" to 100 actually produce any improvements?

I would like to know if there is any improvement to sound quality if I go to

Speaker properties>levels>subwoofer and set it to 100

since the default is disabled and my one other question is it safe to set it at 100 as I require to listen to great quality songs and a bit concerned if this can cause any damage to the laptop speakers/headphones

Any internal setting should not damage the speakers.

You failed to include the actual Dell laptop model (an example Inspiron 1501) so I can't research what your PC actually has.

A laptop does not have a sub woofer, so why are you bothering ?

A sub woofer is an external component of an hd theater, an the volume for it is controlled by the receiver or by the sub-woofers own volume control.

Unless you have some 2.1 or better system, changing that setting will more than likely not do anything.

well my laptop has a built in subwoofer and i think it also has 5.1 surround. My laptop is xps 15 and it has a audio software max waves audio but i was thinking if i set the windows subwoofer would it make a bit of difference

I`ve never seen or heard of a laptop with more then 2 speakers.

I've heard of a laptop with a tiny subwoofer in the bottom. I think maybe whatever Surround/5.1 sound you have is probably simulated.

A 5.1 system requires 5 speakers and a sub woofer.

sorry i meant the system supports 5.1 and i could purchase external speakers to make it up 5.1. Im currently still thinking if it would make any changes by adjusting subwoofer to 100

You`d have to listen to the sub woofer and see how it sounds at that level, but I wouldn`t turn it up to 100%. It may destroy it.

To get 5.1 surround sound, you would have to have six speakers: two front speakers, two rear speakers (impossible to build into a laptop), a center channel speaker, and a sub woofer. A system like that would require three cables plugged into three jacks on the laptop to feed it.

That said, you can always try gradually increasing the setting on the "subwoofer" (sorry, I'm having a hard time wrapping my old mind around the concept of a true subwoofer on a laptop) until you get the sound you want. Keep in mind a tiny "subwoofer" like that isn't going to give deep, thundering bass no matter where you set it.

I suspect it's more marketing hype than an effective subwoofer (slap three tiny speakers in a laptop case and call it a 2.1 sound system) but, not having actually heard one, I can't really say.

My HP Envy 17 has a subwoofer; although the Beats Audio 2.1 on this laptop cannot be compared to a real external audio system, it is in fact quite good considered it really is built-in on a laptop.

Ive just read that the when maxaudio software is on the subwoofer is aswell but im not understanding if this windows 7 setting 100 could damage the subwoofer? Im mostly listen to music or watching videos and my speaker volume is 35. I would admit it you would notice a difference when its on and compared to laptops which does not have 1(tested with a vaio e series).
