I had this blue screen before. As well as my computer freezing. I tried everything to stop it freezing but nothing worked. so I reinstalled windows 7 but didn't format the hard drive. This was nearly 2 weeks ago. After reinstalling it it worked fine. until a couple of days ago I reinstalled the new ram and earlier today I got the blue screen. It was the same blue screen as I got before reinstalling windows. It says DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION. It was caused by the driver ntoskrnl.exe. I don't know much about this driver or anything so I don't know what to do about it. Any help is appreciated. thanks.

DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION means you have Driver Verifier enabled.

Driver should not be enabled without the suggestion of a debugger. It makes the system laggy, crash prone on purpose. Disable it, by following the Option two of the tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html .

Now, it is to see if it is causing any more BSODs there or not.

And BTW, as you are having BSODs, you should post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Disable it without any hesitation. Use the computer normally. If it BSODs again, post it for us, with the latest zip file.

Is driver verifier on by default because I never turned it on myself. And is there nothing I can do until it BSODs again? I thought Driver Verifier was good by helping your system and stopping drivers corrupting windows.

But thanks a lot for the help. Really appreciate it.

Don't know if you can help me or not, but I reinstalled the old ram and that fixed the BSOD problems. but about 5 minutes ago my PC randomly restarted. and there is nothing on the event viewer that looks suspicious besides things that mention an unexpected shutdown.

Kernel power event 41, I guess?

A single instance may be overlooked thinking just a hiccup in the power connections. But if it continues, let us know formally.

yeah. I'll let you know if anything happens again. It's only ever done this once. and I do have anti surge enabled on this computer so it could've surged. but those blue screens were definitely caused by the RAM.

I will not argue. Theoretically
The DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION bug check has a value of 0x000000C4. This is the general bug check code for fatal errors found by Driver Verifier. For more information, see Handling a Bug Check When Driver Verifier is Enabled.
Source: Bug Check 0xC4: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION (Windows Debuggers)
STOP 0x000000C4: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION

Usual causes: Device driver - see parameters for more information
NOTE: May occur in Win7 and later w/o Driver Verifier being enabled
===============================================================
This bug check can only occur when Driver Verifier has been instructed to monitor one or more drivers. If you did not intend to use Driver Verifier, you should deactivate it. You might consider removing the driver which caused this problem as well.

So I have my reasons to believe what I have said, experience also supports this observation.

But you are the user. Will not argue with you.

I was thinking the random restart may have been to do with windows updates. This is because when windows updates sometimes it needs to restart and you have the option to postpone the restart, but it restarted when I was playing a game so the message didn't appear, and one of my friends have said his computer has restarted on its own a few times.
Is there anyway I can find out if it was windows update that caused it to restart?

Well, I got another blue screen today, but it's a different blue screen. It has 0x0000001E. by the driver nvlddmkm.sys

The bug check string says KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I have been getting messages from Nvidia that my Graphics drivers can be updated but I declined because I've had graphics driver problems before. But would it be wise to update them?

No. Do as suggested. Post it following the BSOD posting instructions. We need to see some other files too, to provide you better suggestions.
