Why will my computer only start if I hit F8 and "Disable Driver..."

Ok My pc was acting up so I did a re-install of Windows 7 Home Premium. It's been about 3 years. It was working fine for a couple days, and it did some updates. Ever since the Update it wasn't working right. Right now if I try to start up the pc in normal mode the screen is black. When I start it is "Safe Mode" I get a "Logonui.exe-bad image" If I hit F8 when I start the pc and "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" it runs like a champ. I also get an error about not running "Genuine Windows". Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. IDK if this will help, but here ya go.

Do you have a restore point from before the first update? It might be the easiest fix.

No I wish I did. Also when I start it in safe mode it locks up and says "C:\Windows\system32\RpcRtRemote.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support" Thanks for the help

This looks similar. If you can make a backup image before trying this fix it's always a good idea.

Did you use the drivers provided by Win7 in the installer and during several rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates, after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3)?

This is important. If not I would consider doing the install over and this time following the same steps as here to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Pay particular attention to installing Updates and then programs slowly over a period of days with time between each to gauge performance differences.

Also run a Clean Boot to minimize the chance the .dll error will appear for some needy freeloader that's trying to start with Win7 to spy on you. Only your AV needs to start with Win7.

Sorry it took so long. When I first started this thread I received e-mails when there was replies. Not anymore LOL.

I have no idea how to make a backup image

Lets try installing/updating the IRST drivers first. Please select 3rd one down in this list:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22194

After installation, reboot your system, then crate a new MGADIAG report and post it in your next reply.
Did that

I think I just hit F8 and re-installed it through there...

Oh I forgot it's a Gateway PC. When I try to fix the "Non-Genuine Windows" it sends me here Genuine Microsoft Software I call Windows and tell them the issue they say I need to buy Windows 7. I give them the Windows 7 product key on the side of my PC and they say it's not valid. Microsoft tells me to call some company for Gateway computers. They want $100 to fix it. I tell them it's there problem that the key is invalid.

You cannot Clean Reinstall via F8, that's nonsense.

You've been given everything you need to correctly Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps in the blue link which will provide a perfect install.

If you install the licensed version on the COA sticker then it will always activate. We've never had a case where it didn't in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

What is the licensed version on the COA sticker?

You are trying to install a Acer OEM/SLP operating system on a Gateway PC.
Thats not going to work.
You need to find the COA sticker from Microsoft that is on the Gateway PC and use it to install Windows on the Gateway PC as per Gregs post #10.

From post #9
Oh I forgot it's a Gateway PC

You cannot Clean Reinstall via F8, that's nonsense.

You've been given everything you need to correctly Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps in the blue link which will provide a perfect install.

If you install the licensed version on the COA sticker then it will always activate. We've never had a case where it didn't in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

What is the licensed version on the COA sticker?

I have a 150gb HD that I use for files and such. I own a cellphone store and have some "tokens" and some files that are needed to make payments and activate phones. Will all of the be saved when I reinstall Windows?

By the way, where would I find the version #?

The version is listed on the COA sticker above the Product Key. it's a name and not a number. Make sure the Product Key is readable.

All of this including how to back up your data and gather your program installers is in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you use special programs for your business then you'll need to find their installers and be ready to reinstall them after Win7 reinstall, then copy the data back in which is used with those programs.

As always and as stated in tutorial, its' best to organize yourself by sorting all data into Your Name User folders: Desktop, Docs, Pics, Music, Downloads (for installers), etc.

Then in step 1 you'd want Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download.

However if you have 4gb or less RAM I'd also consider using 32 bit which sometimes yields better performance, and which you can use with the same Product Key on COA sticker (it is readable, right?).

This time after Custom install where you delete all partitions, first thing enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) and do all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates. After requested reboots, go right back and keep checking for Updates until there are no more.

The main reason for activation problem is typing wrong characters, so triple check your input.

Acer owns Gateway, which may have led to some confusion.
