Have 8gb of ram in the system. I'm running no programs, and 3.5gb of it is in use. Now, if that is being used to improve the speed, cool with me.. if not, then I want to know what is eating it.. I downloaded process explorer, and cannot find anything listed to account for the ram usage. I could probably reboot the machine and watch the number drop, but I am interested in knowing where it went.. Any advice welcome!!

Process Explorer v11.33 By Mark Russinovich
Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.
The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.
The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.

The "problem" will happen again. Only thing is, it's probably not a problem.

I have a similar problem where the windows explorer process takes up a huge amount of memory when i leave the computer running overnight. It is a nuisance but is easily sorted out in the space of 30 seconds.

All i do is to kill the explorer.exe process and then start a new one by clicking 'File -> New Task' and typing explorer.exe and i am in business again.

Strange thing is that i do not get the same problem on another computer running the same version of O/S, Antivirus and a few other programs.
