Is this the correct shipping practice for my new HDD?

I apologize in advance if this question doesn't belong on this forum; however, this HDD is a replacement to the one that just failed.

Anyways, I just purchased this HDD from Amazon, and I want to know if this has been sent to me correctly.

They basically sent this to me in manufacturers packaging and that's it. The box you see is the box that was on my doorstep.

Is this correct. or would this box have to be in another box for some reason?

Did the specs on the amazon website say OEM or retail ?

OEM boxes are shipped like that .

Retail boxes are shipped in manufactured boxes like you would see in best buy , and other retail stores .

That is perfectly fine for shipping. They could have shipped it in 10 boxes and if it was mishandled, it could damage the hard drive. I've ordered from other places that shipped a hdd in an antistatic bag, some plain brown paper to take up the extra space and a flimsy box......I wasn't happy about it, but I've never had one that was damaged. Run some read/write tests on it before you start formatting it and putting data on it.......that will let you know if there is anything wrong with it.

Yea, it was described as OEM. I was just making sure because one time, I purchased a HDD from Amazon, and it actually came BARE inside of a bubble wrap envelope... with no shock absorbers... lol. Needless to say I had to return that HDD.

So, I'm good then? I guess I just have to pray that they didn't throw this box across the warehouse?

Who shipped it UPS ? Then believe it was tossed like a quarterback throwing a football for a touch down . But if it works that's what matters .

Each manufacturer has their own version of software. For Seagate, I use SeaTools for Windows.......you can use SeaTools for DOS but I've never been able to get it to recognize any of the 4 Seagate drives I have with this computer. Others have had problems with current generation platforms and SeaTools for DOS as well. SeaTools for Windows will let you perform basic read/write tests, or full read/write tests. I use the full tests to make sure every sector is in good shape. This method takes quite a bit of time though, as the 4TB drives I have took about 11 hours to do a complete read/write test on. I know when it gets done that it is in working order.

Is there like an ISO that I can utilize so that I can test it before installing the operating system? It's only a 1TB drive.

Yes, I believe VistaKing is right on the money. WD used to call their HDD diagnostics something else, but that looks to be exactly what you want. I believe you can full read/write tests, or basic tests with that.

Heads up a TB drive will take more then 24 hrs to test . LOL you won't be installing Windows anytime soon

I performed a FULL read/write test on my Seagate 4TB HDD's and they took a little over 11 hours each. Does the WD tool really take that long?

I don't recall my 2TB WD Greens and Blacks taking over 24 hours but it will definitely set you back a day. Before I had my desktop rig built, I used an inexpensive USB 2.0 dock connected to my notebook to run the test on a WD Green and a Black, both 2TB. Best to start the test before going to bed, then hope it's finished by the time you get home from work.

I've received OEM drives both the way you did and wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap. They arrived in good shape.

Be sure to register your drive at WD as the warranty starts with your purchase date. If it is not registered then the warranty starts with the manufactured date that is on the drive.

I always register drives when I receive them, along with anything else that has a warranty.
