Hi,

I've made a restore point using system restore and saved the image onto my external HDD and later restored it to its factory state using Dell Local Backup.

However, now that I want to restore from the image on my external HDD, I can't find the entry in system restore since I've restored my system using Dell Local Backup and it probably deleted the entry.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Thanks

Hi

I already created the back up on my external HDD using system restore.

But I cannot restore from it because the entry isn't present in system restore anymore after I've restored it to factory settings using the Dell program.

I think you used windows system image, not system restore.

If you have a folder on your external called WindowsImageBackup, then that is a windows system image.

If Windows can't see it, you can use the command prompt to find it, and restore the Image to your HD.
If you are not familiar with commands, it is difficuklt.

Easier is to mount the .vhd file in disk management , and make an image of that mounted file with a free 3rd party image program. Macrium or Aomei backupper are good for that.

You're right, that's the name of the folder, sorry for the mix up of the terms. I'll try it out, thanks!

Hi ashash,

Welcome to Seven forums.

System restore and system image are completely different concept. System restore takes account for the software and updates installed on the system and restore it to previous working state.

However, system image is complete image of the system which include windows, software and all the data.

You should either use dell datasafe to take system image at a regular intervals or the the Windows backup.

You can check the link below for restoring through dell datasafe and windows image backup:
