Can't login using finger print scanner on HP ProBook

Hi Everyone,

I am currently trying to configure the Finger Print login function on an HP ProBook 4730s. Although I have finger prints registered they do not appear to be working at the login screen (e.g.: when CTRL + ALT + DEL is presented on the screen).

Once Windows 7 (x64) loads and a standard keyboard login is performed I am able to access the HP Protect Tools application that allows me to register finger prints. I am therefore confident that appropriate drivers, and software are installed, however I suspect that one or more requisite software packages is not starting prior to logon.

If anybody has any suggestions regarding how to get finger print login working can you please let me know?

Hello Dave mate try opening msconfig and see what is being loaded on start up. I usually untick everything except the Kaspersky and the HP stuff might be listed there though and make sure the fingerprint item is left in or is in.

Sorry but I am on my 8 laptop at the moment so I cannot send a screenshot to show you what I mean. But the msconfig looks the same as my pic except that Start tab is different with what I have here and lists all the features ticked to load on boot up.

Just as a by the by this is good if you want better performance..

Hi ICit2lol,

Thanks for your interest in my post. I have checked the startup programs using msconfig, and cannot see anything by HP that is not enabled. This being said I did uninstall some HP programs at the beginning, and this is when the scanner stopped working altogether. Since reinstalling the programs the scanner is working again, however I guess that it is possible some of the HP program entries were permanently removed from the startup tab of msconfig!!

Davo now if you can back up the data from the laptop (say an image to an external) you could try a factory default that is you shut down and on power up you tap the default key which is usually F11. This will of course take you back to out of the shop status but if you have that image you will be able to restore the data etc back from the drive you made it to

Thanks. I think I will just put this issue to bed. Finger scanning, or the lack of ability to do so isn't too great a concern, certainly not worth going to the trouble of re-installing / imaging for...

I agree Davo I had the same problem with the Toshiba one and frankly for what it is worth like you say not worth the hassle.
