I have a gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 MB. The USB 3.0 never worked well. I've tried to use other manufacturers drivers that are newer than the 2.0.30.0 that gigabyte has on it's site. I used the HP 2.1.36.0 and it seemed to work well. In fact my USB 3 card reader finally worked and my USB 3 ext drive was recongnized. Then my computer crashed so I wanted to uninstall the driver from the device manager panel and install the Intel 2.1.28.1 driver instead but I get an error message that a new driver is install and the program won't continue. I did reboot after the driver uninstall in the device manager. 1)How do remove all trace of the 2.1.36 driver? 2) Any idea on what driver will work with my MB USB 3.0 port.

I know this is not what you asked -- but I have a Gigabyte board and had similar poor USB 3.0 performance until I installed the firmware update and driver update from the Nec/Renesas site: Station-Drivers - Renesas/Nec

As you can see, they have files for the following chips:
-- D720200
-- D720200a
-- D720201
-- D720202

You need to know the precise nomenclature of the Nec chip on your motherboard -- to choose the right firmware and drivers.

I have the 720200 chip on the MB. Do you run the driver or firmware file first? Thanks for the link. As the file is newer that the one I'm using it should overwrite the current driver.

Brother, I've got a Syba USB 3.0 card that uses the uPD720200 NEC chipset.

I've reseated, re-slotted my Syba card multiple times as well as uninstalling and reinstalling every driver that Station Drivers has for the uPD720200 NEC chipset. Device manager says all is working normally. Using Driver 2.1.3.9.0 and 3.0.3.4 firmware.

I've NEVER been able to get anything saying it's connected at USB 3.0 speed and Windows displays a popup stating that the device can run faster if plugged in to a USB 3.0 port. I get a 650 mbps write speed to my USB 3.0 exterior enclosure, but NirSoft USBDeview says it's USB 2.1. My USB 3.0 flash drive also says USB 2.1.

As I Google for this problem, it seems very common, and everyone says the NEC drivers for the first gen add-on boards are crap and don't work on Win7 x64.

I can testify to that, as I also been unable to get them to work. I said to hell with it, I'm not wasting anymore time on this.

Good luck;

Sarris

Mark Phelps, I installed the driver and it seems to be working. The firmware update doesn't work. Do I need to update the firmware?

Do I need to update the firmware?

I don't know if you need to, but in my case, I didn't get USB 3.0 speeds until after I updated the firmware.

The firmware download has 3 exe files, W200FWUP_x86.exe, W200FWUP.exe and ExecUpdater.exe. The only one that seem to run is W200FWP.exe, it gives a license agreement and then when you agree you get the error msg "Not Found the Target Device". Do you run the program to update the firmware from windows?

In my case, the firmware download had only one .exe file (F303408FWUP1) -- and I ran that as Administrator. It updated the firmware without problems.

From what I could see, you should be using the same download: renesas_usb3_3.0.3.4(www.station-drivers.com).exe

It turns out I was using the wrong firmware download. Firmware Version 3.0.3.4 pour uPD720200 (Windows 32 & 64bits) is the correct one. Everything seems to work I'm not sure about the speed yet. Download a CF card with raw files on it to the usb 3.0 port and only got 38 megs/sec. Not sure if it's the USB port of the CF card that slowing down. Thanks for your help.
