I'm having huge trouble with this. it seemed to only to do 2 folders out of the 5 i had. and hasn't done anything in a few hours.

I ticked create placeholder folder when dvd is inserted. which worked well once. Though now it wont work. i do have 2 dvd drivers though inserting into either does not seem to work.

Is there anything extra that has to be done? playing it in media center(i have tried this though nothing happened) or something else?

Also i'm not doing this with avi's. i'm actually ripping dvds into folders.

I also have already ticked the user in metadata and windows 7 media center option.

EDIT:

Is yammm dead? it's been nearly a year since a release.

Hi All,

I'm new to Yammm and have just installed it for the first time. I've used File2Folder Script 1.0 to ensure all my movies are in separate folders. I've also configured Yammm according to the instructions on the following URL Add Images and Metadata to Windows 7 Media Center Movie Library - How-To Geek
However, Yammm hasn't made any changes to any of my files at all or downloaded any of the artwork of metadata.
Can anyone help? I'm using Windows 7, .net framework 3.5 is installed with service pack one, and all updates have been installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Geo

Try creating a _STAGING directory under your main movies folder. Have Yammm monitor this folder only.

Place a single directory in there and see if the Yammm service picks it up. (you may need to search for the title in The Movie DB just to get the naming right -ie. I've had trouble getting it to pick up on movies that have a :, which should be replaced with a -. )
I've noticed that Yammm may stop searching if it can't match a folder name to a movie. This may trigger a timeout before continuing, which could be up to an hour.

When you feel comfortable with the naming convention, move chunks or even all of your unique title movies in the folder. Address unusually named or re-made movies in the _STAGING directory after you get the feel for how Yammm searches for matches in The Movie DB.

YAMMM works for me most of the time, but what do I do when it insists on putting in wrong information? Specifically, if I have a folder and the info is in thetvdb.com and there's a movie by the same name in themoviedb.org, it keeps getting the info from themoviedb. Usually, appending the year fixes it, but in this case, it won't stop the xml from reappearing even though the year is different from what it finds. Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to specify the db entry number for TV, at least that I can find. Is there any way to point it to the right place, or at least keep it from replacing the XML each time I erase it?

That's not really a YAMMM issue but an organizational one. YAMMM works with folders, and if you have a folder with the image of a disk (an ISO for example) or the literal contents from a DVD such as a VIDEO_TS sub folder, YAMMM can create and manage the metadata. But it's Windows that will display the folders, the image that is displayed in your example based on the folder's content, or alternatively the images in the other example you posted when there are playable files instead of folders with playable contents.

If you want Windows to display things that way, you will need to convert your videos from folders to a playable file format that WMP can recognize.

But the whole idea behind YAMMM is that you see the movies/videos displayed in Media Center with the proper covers and descriptions, so I don't think you are looking at the right tool. Have you been using Media Center?

New user Windows 2008, Win7 and XBOX 360

Hi, I found Yammm the other week and think it is excellent! Now I just need to get it working properly.

On my server (Windows 2008 R2) I have a HD with all my films on and they are all in individual folders. I have installed Yammm on this server and it is currently monitoring a staging folder where I drop in a number of films and it renames them perfectly, adds artwork etc.

I have a Windows 7 machine with Media Center installed, it is looking to the staging folder/share for the movies and they appear in the library with the artwork but there is no synopsis, genre etc. just the artwork? Why is this? Is this something to do with the AppData folder/DVDinfo file??? Help please I would like the synopsis to appear.

I then go to my XBOX 360 (being used as a WMC extender) and can see the movies but now and again the artwork disappears or doesn't show at all or takes a long time to load. Any ideas on this?

I have quite a few movies but have just been trying to test with a few. I have also noticed Yammm skips some folders but if I rename them e.g. "The Mask" to "The Mas" then back to "The Mask" Yammm picks it up and does the business, anyway of getting around this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also what is the official site for Yammm?

How to get YAMMM metadata to show up on multiple PCs/MCs

This was my solution:
1. Shared the 2nd PC's \Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\eHome\DvdInfoCache folder
2. Added this shared folder under YammmConfig Metadata Additional Folders
3. Entered an admin user/password for 2nd PC under YammmConfig Library Network credentials

Watched the shared folder on the 2nd PC and saw YAMMM000-xxxxxxxx.xml files added to it.

Pulled up MC on the 2nd PC, gave it a long few minutes and I got the cover art, etc.

Even though my 2nd PC's share was read/write by everyone, I still needed the credentials for YAMMM to push the files to the shared folder. If I want to do a 3rd PC (I do) I suspect I'll need the same user/password on all PCs as there is only one credential entry possible.

Couldn't find this anywhere, so I figured I'd share it.

Yammm metadata

Is there anyway to edit the metadata that Yammm creates? For instance, the movie "Live Free or Die Hard", in this image http://i42.tinypic.com/2ptx838.png , if i wanted to change the "Sort Title" from "Live Free or Die Hard" to "Die Hard 4"(I'm assuming that's how WMC7 organizes the movies, in alphabetical order). I can open and view the metadata via IE, but I cannot edit it. Is there anyway to edit metadata, or create metadata from scratch even?

If you change the name, YAMMM will change it back in no time! This is because YAMMM gets its movie database info direct from IMDB.com. To edit the metadata you need an xml editor like dreamweaver (Think webpage editor). Hope this helps!

And I hope Mikenho updates Yammm soon!!!

It has been a long time, but I have returned. I'm glad to be back.

I'm not some super geek like Orbital Shark or Darryl Licht, but I do have an extensive movie collection, anything from 1990 to 2013.

I feel everyones pain with downloading the metadata for the movies, I checked my servers bandwidth logger, and noticed I burned nearly 2GB of bandwidth on just images, and xml files for my collection.

@ mikinho/Orbital Shark/ Darryl Licht

I have noticed a severe issue with using NAS setups. I have nearly 40TB of space for my media collection. I have the Raw Files, Encoded Blu-Ray, and a mobile version of every movie thats available. I've noticed some files not being named properly, metadata for the wrong movie, and overall un-compatible with my setup.

This is my setup;
Internet -> Server -> Router -> Nas/Everything Else. For some reason, the YAMMM doesn't want to recognize nearly 75% of my collection. I have it classified in different sections, only the Blu-ray Encodes are "registered" through Media Center. Since I moved from internal storage to external, I've had nothing but problems. At first YAMMM couldn't even acknowledge I had a Network Drive, finally got it to accept it by making a shortcut on the desktop to point it too. I'm hoping you won't tell me to move it from a NAS to the Server, cause that simply isn't possible with the 2U RM I have, not enough space, and I don't have the cash for a 6U or 8U RM. I can post specs for the server, but I would prefer to keep that off the radar due to the cost of said server and how I have my network setup.

I'm doing all of this work remotely, and won't be home for another few months, I'd like to get this wrapped up so my family can continue watching and having access to my media collection.

My neighbors are also without access due to my router getting bricked. But that is another problem for another time. (They pay for my internet in order to have access to my media collection). 10mbit up / down for $43 a month, no bandwidth cap. I've burned 2.5TB of data streaming videos before I was called about it.

P.S. mikinho, I love your work. No other Media Manager has worked for me. Just to work out kinks and bugs, I'm glad to be a guinea pig for you! Much <3 Bro!

Wow! I thought I had a lot of media files! 40 TB is an awful lot of media! I am willing to bet that your NAS is running Linux as its base OS. You may have a permissions issue between YAMM and or your PC, and the NAS. Make sure you have the correct username and pw in YAMM config under Network Credentials for starters.

I also have the occasional movie that gets the wrong name altogether, or is appended with Russian or Chinese characters and I still cannot fix those.

In most misnamed file cases I rename the file to the IMDB # of the page for that movie on imdb. So, for example if I had a problem with the naming of Star Trek and the movies located at: Star Trek (2009) - IMDb then I just rename the file or folder to tt0796366 and YAMM will give it the correct name 95% of the time.

I am also assuming that you are structuring your movie folders in a way that YAMM can recognize, how are you naming your files and or folders?

And looking at the yamm site, pretty sure he abandoned updating the program long ago, and moved onto the Ceton Windows Media extender, which he works for.

Suppose you could always ask him on his twitter feed.
