Anyone tried Zone Alarm with Windows 7?

Versions 9.0.083.000 won't install on Windows 7 and there is an implication on the CheckPoint site that the version for Windows 7 will be called Zone Alarm 2010.
Is this available yet?

What version of "7" are you running? When you say it won't install, what exactly is happening? What other security programs, if any, were resident during the install?

Their AV is not very good at all. In my tests it failed quite a bit. Better than ESET? While I have switched to Vipre, ESET is no slouch. NO way Comodo AV is better than Nod32, not a chance.

And the firewall is fine if you want a million pop ups. It works great, but be prepared to answer if you want to allow or block something.

I also like the Comodo firewall and its D+.
From the firewall itself you get almost no popups. If D+ is activated it can cause many popups, but it's question of settings and the longer you have it run the fewer popups you get.

You can't really compare NOD32 to Comodo's AV because Comodo is free.

I used Comodo's Internet Security suite and NOD32 together on Win XP and would like to install it on Win 7, too.
But I don't know how it will behave with UAC and the Win firewall.
Can problems arise if I deactivate UAC and the Win firewall?

Using Windows 7 RTM x64 and you get this error box.
It's implying that Version 9.0.083.000 is not for Windows 7.

Which implies you've got to wait till Zone Alarm 2010 comes out!

Maybe ver 9 doesn't work on x64 Windows 7.

I'll try it on x86 and report back.

The reason I prefer ZA over Windows Firewall is greater configurability and familarity.

I was using Comodo but it crashed Power DVD and who knows what else it tinkered with... but it was a sound application - pitty I have to stop using it.

The Firewall is annoying, but after configuring it a LOT of pop-ups go away.
I never said ESET was better than COMODO, I said the Heuristics was better. COMODOS Defense+ has awesome Heuristics and is able to detect a LOT of viruses.
COMODO AntiVirus is great, but only good if you KNOW HOW TO USE DEFENSE+. Defense+ is a GREAT tool if you know how to use it!

Which would rule out about 95% of the users out there.

Most want an anti virus that they set and forget. Just protect me and shut up about it. Don't bother me with pop ups, etc. I'm a programmer and I found Comodo's product difficult to use. IMO there shouldn't be a learning curve for security software that either protects you or doesn't.

I realize Defense+ and the firewall are much more than just an anti virus product, but I think it would be too overwhelming for most.

I dumped AVG antivirus because it was too agressive and didn't easily allow you to make exceptions for false positive warnings. I now use Avast which is much more well behaved and easier to configure.

For a firewall the Win 7 one isn't bad but I have liked Zone Alarm Pro.
At least you can install version 9 on the 32 bit Win 7 now.

I dare say it'll take Check Point some more time to get out a x64 bit version. They drag their feet a bit with x64 bit versions.

I still prefer to have separate firewall, antivirus an anti spyware programs. The combined ones just do not seem to be as good.

ZoneAlarm for Win7

I downloaded ZA last week and it does not work accurately as it does on XP. First off, I will surf the web and all of a sudden I can't surf anymore unless I shut down ZA.

Not sure what the problem is and I added all sorts of IP and programs to the Trusted site but, no good.

Zone Alarm is horrible to fix the problem and it may be because of the need of rolling out ZA2010 instead of fixing an older version (9.1)

I've been using Zone Alarm for years and it is by far the best out there when you look at how easy it is to build advance rules and locking down your entire computer with only letting what you want out.

I've always been impressed with the outbound protection. All Firewalls including Windows 7 will let you lock down everything and only allow outbound connections for specific programs on specific ports. The difference is Zone Alarm will also prevent other programs from using those legit programs that you have allowed out.

For those that doubt... and those who say you don't need outbound...try this...

I have a program installed called CCleaner. In it, there is a "Check For Update". This link opens up internet explorere and passes it the Version information to the vendors website. They then take that information and tell you if you are up to date.

Zone Alarm is the only firewall that catches that another program is trying to piggy back on IE and blockes it.


.... Now with all that said... yes there are some issues with ZA and Windows 7. I know for a fact that if you install the Firewall product along with Microsoft Security Essentials (for av and spyware), that your system will lock up. This can be fixed by turning off the Real-Time protection in MSE but without that, what is the point.


So to sum it up, ZA is a great product, but for now, Microsoft and ZA need to work out some things before I'll be able to use in on my Win 7 system

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and had no trouble installing Zone Alarm, but the problem I had was that many of the links I clicked came up with strange graphics and hieroglyphics--numerous failed page loads. As soon as I uninstalled it, no problems. This is a new computer with virtually nothing else on it to interfere.

I loaded Zone Alarm on my Win 7 home premium 64 bit last week (April 2012) and the system crashed every time I opened the internet.

I recieved no message from Zone Alarm about incompatibility.
