Solved How to find a Homegroup's username??

Hi, when trying to access a shared network folder in my PC from my laptop I'm requested to enter a username and password. I know what the password is, I can retrieve it from my PC by going to Network and Sharing Center\Homegroup\View or print the homegroup password. But what about the username? How do I find that out? Is the username the "xxx" in the C:\users\xxx folder? Thanks

The user name and password it's asking for isn't the Homegroup password, that is only for joining a Homegroup.

It's looking for the sign in password that this User is using to sign into the user account with. The user names typically show up under the Network or Homegroup.

My PC does not have a login password set, when it boots it goes directly to the desktop without the login screen. So then why does the network still asks for a password to access the shared folder?

Most likely because you have password protected sharing turned on in the Advanced Sharing settings.

If that setting is turned on Windows will ask for a password even if you don't have one set.

Yes it's looking for the User name at C:>Users>User name, if you didn't set a password then you can leave it blank. It's best to set up a password then type 'netplwiz' at the run box to set it to sign in automatically.
