Can't connect to my ubuntu server anymore

I have a little home server running ubuntu that I've been using for 2 years to share files locally and store files. Recently the built-in NIC on the server's mobo died. So I purchased an NIC that plugs into a PCIe port. I popped it in, changed its name from eth1 to eth0, and edited my router preferences so it assigns it the same ip that it's always had.

Now when I go to access it from any of my windows computer it just won't connect and I get "windows cannot access \\myserver (error code 0x80070035 network path not found).
I am able to access it with my android tablet through ESfilebrowser with no problem at all.

I'm a little stumped since nothing really changed except the MAC address of eth0.

\\myserver access network shares. So SAMBA on linux. Does ESfilebrowser also access network shares or another protocol?

Can windows ping ip address of ubuntu server?

I can ping the server no problem.

on my android tablet the exact address is smb://"ip address". I can access all my folders just like before on there.

It also appears in the network folder, but when I double click on it thats when I get the can't connect error.

\\ip-adress-of-server same problem?
Disable virusscanner and firewalls on windows temporary and test if it works afterwards. Post results

Hey that worked! Using \\ip-address instead of \\name.

So is this a problem on Ubuntu's side not windows?

turned off windows firewall and MSE and still have the problem.

Ping servername doesn't work? ping ipaddress works?

Not a firewall problem

Ping servername doesn't work? ping ipaddress works?

That is correct. I'm thinking I might have accidentally changed a setting on my server that caused this. For now though, I can read/write to it through IP so that will be fine. Thank you for the help.

No, wins is disabled in samba. I deleted my old network preferences, but I entered then in exactly the same way when I installed the new card. The only thing I forgot is there was an entry in the DNS server but I forgot to write it down before it deleted it.

Problem is indeed in DNS server. What is the DNS-server???? is the router the dns server or the ubuntu server? See IPCONFIG/ALL output in windows (command prompt)

My server doesn't really do anything besides host files, it does no routing functions or actual server processes.
